Default Finally get a kill

I can finally breathe a sigh of relief tody. After starting a new career and been sent to the US coast (off New York) in my brand new Type IX/C, I didn't get a single contact, not even a convoy contact via BDu.
Well as soon as I enter my patrol grid, what do i see? A nice whale factory ship, which goes down after a brief gun battle. And then 6 hrs later a Granville goes down from 2 torpedo hits.

Now the question is, does this good luck iv'e just got stay with me till I get back to base, or it leaves me and I get nothing else:hmm:

congratulations.

In some patrols U-boat commanders might not sink any ships let alone see anything for the duration of the entire patrol. and whatever radio reports they received might have been so far away that an intercept was all but impossible.

check out uboat.net and check patrol history of some of the boats there... its actually amazing the number of patrols wherein sinkings read "0"

I would say your haul of two ships is fairly historically accurate.

Be sure to save at least one fore and one aft torpedo for the voyage home.

I agree with GoldenRivet...

But since you're in the US East Coast, it's gonna be a field day, especially in '41!

Well I hope your luck holds out.
Just out of curiosity, are you hunting on the surface or using your hydrophones?

I only ask because I don't ever have much trouble finding targets in my patrol areas, where I skulk about at periscope depth and listen for most of the day.

You should meet plenty of traffic off the U.S. Coast

if your not seeing much traffic of the US coast, it is probably a matter of hunting too far off shore.

Thats what i was doing on my first USA patrol... i was just off the continental shelf and it was too far out to sea to encounter much shipping. hug the coast a little closer perhaps looking for targets in water as shallow as 30 meters.

look for them to be moving into and out of port areas. but whatever you do, if you encounter any warships... make like a hole in the water.

I was using both methods.

Im now on my way back to home base, which will be about 1 month away, so I should defintley sink more shipping as iv'e plotted a course that will take through the major shipping routes .
