Il2 patch 4.09 (beta) is out

il2 patch 4.09 beta is ready to download. Coming in slowly here at the moment. In the meantime, read the patch notes!

Patch 4.09mBeta

Patch includes:

* New maps:
Bessarabia
Iasi (online)
Odessa (online)
MTO
Slovakia
Slovakia (online)

* New default skins for planes

409b1m.zip contains maps only.
If you want to install replacement skins then download
409b1m_skins.zip and install over the map pack.
fb_3do20.sfs from the map pack have to be overwritten.


***** CHANGES in GRAPHICS ***********************

* Increased buffer size for stationary objects (buildings etc.)
to prevent freezes under some circumstances.

* Colors of water corrected for Water=2,3,4 modes.
Now when looking down it is no more black/dark blue.

* Optimized Shaders for Nvidia 8X00 series video cards.

* Added a new mode for increased visibility distance.
Visibility increased from 36 km to 72km
under "Clear" and "Good" weather conditions.

Note: This mode is not optimized for performance
(freezes and low fps are possible on low-end systems)
This mode is recommended for fast CPUs & powerful video
cards such as Nvidia 8800 series, ATI X1800 series or better.
With 512 MB of video RAM.

This new feature is available only in "Perfect" game graphics mode.

Also, there is a possibility to have problems with clouds and their
shadows at far distances, due to some engine limitations.

Modify your conf.ini string in the [Render_OpenGL] section
to use this mode:

LandGeom=3 (new mode is ON)
LandGeom=2 (back to normal mode).

That's it? I mean that's it all there is to the readme a long wait for a few new maps some gfx tweaks. They didn't even say if they have locked stuff down to stop cheaters.

Maybe they realised that they cant stop the hacking. It would need a whole load of changes to the file structure to make it unhackable. There might be something in the patch that makes the 4.08m mods to stop working, but I give it 2months max. and it's hacked again. :p

but I skip the BETA myself and await for the full one.

Pay attention to the 6th pic. Either the mods still work, or then the patch adds more shine to the planes. As there's a mod for 4.08m to get more shine to the planes and that sure aint stock IL2 shine. :p

For comparisation, here's pic using the mod. The amount of shine on the engine is the pretty much the same.

I just read the interview on simhq.com and they mentioned the release of the decompiling tool. Is this an official release or is one which unofficial hackers have?

Wow....Actually adding Slovakia in the game....gotta be the first time that you can fly in that area in a WWII simulator, right?

Pretty much yes. The only thing that interests me (atleast) on the beta, is the new 72km visibility!
