officer dissapeared?

After my last patrol I lost the use of one of my officers...it shows that I have five officers but I only see four of them.

I then started up Sh3 commander and saw that he was on the list but had no photo...very wierd, I can't get rid of him and he is not functional so I lose the benefit of a full staff of officers.

is this a glitch...will I have to start another damn campaign to fix this?

I even tried getting a type IXB to see if that would fix it...nope.
