Slight detail, having the master arm switch in the up position now instead of the training position is all. No big deal. This guy simply wanted a little more realistic training session!

To see if a patriot missle could hit a camel??? Can't wait to here what excuse they use to explain this one. "It was my first day on the job!"

Well, somebody's going to lose their job...or at least their next pay-grade raise. The government doesn't like wasting expensive missiles...

Aha, so that's it, the officer in charge of the missile battery was looking for something to occupy his troops with, and in exasperation at not finding anything, probably said something off the cuff, such as 'Look, if you've got nothing better to do, why not go over there, take a break and smoke a few Camels?'

If only he'd have smoked Winston, things would have been fine, unless he was serving in WW2, in which case there could have been real trouble.

I heard we were outsourcing patriot missile building to China.

It's called "training accident" and as far as nobody gets's injured you can laugh about it. (or get angry about the waste of tax money by stupid trigger-happy morons)
One more ?
During my army service (back in the cold war) our artillery battalion used to fire from positions south of the garrison town to the target area in the north.... so far everthing is fine..
One day someone miscalculated the distance or the powder charge by exactly 1/2 and a 155mm flattened the garden shed of the lokal bank CEO. Luckily it was only a training round that day. (no explosives, just the shape and mass to get ballistics right)
Two things to remember:
a) nobody injured, just killed some garden dwarfs
b) but the crater was a *PERFECT* hit.

You are wondering how this can happen ??
