helgoland

hello hunters,

before i arrive at helgoland i wonder if anyone could tell me, can i refuel there; i've come down the kiel canal and would like a top-up before heading out.

and if i do top-up will this affect my original patrol orders. i'm off to an56 for 24 hrs and then back to kiel - does this change if i check in at another port.

many thanks

Do you have GXW, stock, or WAC?

I do not think so but when you get in about 30kms from the base or less it should say dock and you would refill and load up again you can go out and sink some ships.
Sorry never been to the island but thats what im thinking. Hope it helps

You can dock at a friendly port but your patrol will be over

Ummm why do you need fuel this early in your patrol
Esp if you came down the canal

You can go to any friendly port, but your patrol will resume a month later.

Default refueling etc

thanks bbw & brag

for responding.

a couple of months ago i'd had enough. i found myself rushing around running out of fuel, getting nowhere out in the north sea and atlantic. i'm reasonably new to the sh3-4 and don't have a lot of time to play - yet i prefer the career path to the short one-off's on single palyer: time and patience ran out.
i've come back to the game now with the arrival of sh4 but found myself pulled back to sh3. the gwx just makes sh3, for me, the better of the two. no.4 seems a little unfinished, it does'nt have the panach, the honning and final care that no.3 has recieved.
i'd like a little more action out there, but in the past have been unable to find it...( patience...) got stuck with finding and tracking - so i drifted about listening to Marlene untill the fuel and batteries ran down and could'nt get back.

so now, i set off again - as this is my favourite game...

time and patience will tell
cheers

If you have just come down the Kiel Canal from Kiel, you should have plenty of fuel and, I assume, a full load out of torps. So you don't need to top up anything.

AN56 is "just in the neighborhood" for even a IID... keep your speed down (make your turns for 7-8 knts, except in tactical situations), and you have enough fuel now to stay out there for 30+ days.

If you do "friendly port" anywhere before you get to your assigned zone, you will lose the original patrol assignment, and the renown for arriving & patrolling the assigned zone. Your new assigned zone will be "Null." Naturally, you can continue out and sink ships for renown, but you will gain no renown for proceeding to your original assignment.

desirableroasted: I can understand wanting to dock at somewhere like Heligoland after running the canal out of Kiel. I just started a new (not DiD, because I'm nowhere near that good) campaign in '39 with a IIA.

I've found that if I use the canal, I can't really use time compression, which is annoying in friendly waters. I simply don't have the time to wait twelve hours for my boat to hit the North Sea. So, even in my IIA, I loop around Denmark. Of course, this means I'm usually stuck docking somewhere relatively asinine after I run out of fuel. (Dunkirk, Bergen, when the Wehrmacht takes a city, I'm right behind.)

As for Heligoland itself though, I wouldn't try it. I don't believe it has any quays, so there's a good chance the boat will impale itself on a church steeple. If you feel the need to dock in that area, play it safe and aim for Wilhelmshafen.

If your using SH3 Commander you can alter the time compression your able to achieve when your close to land. It helps tremendously...as i hope this comment will!

Actually, yeah, that does help. I do use SH3Commander, but it never struck me to adjust the max time compression with regards to land proximity...

...even though that's exactly why I can't stand the canal.

I have a feeling it's going to have a side effect rather like that scene in Cryptomonicon, though.

"Norway."

"What is our mission, sir?"

"Ram and run."

"What are we ramming, sir?"

"Norway."

No, but he did cut his foot off with an axe about two pages later.
