Default Maybe I should thank Mr Churchill

And here I was thinking I was going to freeze my unmentionables off around Greenland for a couple of months. Back home early and not frostbitten. Very nice.

Lots of tonnage there.

I must be one of those few people who fires two to four torpedoes or twenty or so deck gun rounds at every target to get such small tonnages per patrol. >.>

Wow! In two weeks you managed to get to your patrol grid, go on to the North, sink 32 merchants and 6 Frigates? What realism level is that?

Like SleightOfHand, I generally fire 2 torps at each target, of which I can (reasonably) expect 1 to hit. On my current patrol (Type VIIb, 1940) I've got 4 torps left - 2 at the front, 2 at the back - and have sunk 15k tonnes, or two large merchants. Your mission puts me to shame!

However, I assume (hope and prey - for the sake of my pride) that the IX has more than 14 eels.

Perhaps I should start trying to sink the escorts first so that I can get my deck gun into action?

Never got anywhere near my patrol grid. Caught a convoy before I got west of Ireland. Eradicated it. Escorts included. All I had left was eight torps and my flak. Day and a half or so later picked up another. Two days later all I have left is flak, fuel, and a burning desire to become inebriated. Didn't see much sense burning desiel, so I called BdU and got the all clear to head home. Guess it makes up for all those long patrols and praying for a stray seagull to shoot at.

The only thing I don't have turned on on the "real-o-meter" is no map contacts. Gotta have some sort of a crutch. So yup the screen says I'm at 100%.

I love my IX. 21 for the tubes, and 110 rounds for Enid. Plenty of fuel, and crew. try slammin' en home a skoosh fore of the bridige, and be patient on the girl. may take a fair bit to go down. But I have and will sink a third in if that is what it takes. Sp there ain't no shame. Do what you can to put the stiff in their lower lip. I spent a lot of time graphpaper and beverage learning.

And as others have said "If the Wolves wish to feast upon raw lamb, they must first kill the dogs". I reccomend opening up a flank and the rear first. It makes evasion and shadowing much easier.

@Brag I have no problems buying the libations. But they best be in me, not on me!

So you sank 38 ships using 21 torpedos and 110 DG shells

All one torp hits ?
No misses ?
And only an average of only 6.5 DG shells for the 17 other ships ?

Average merc size 4200+ tonnes

:hmm:

Im very surprised that all of you eels successfully hit. On most patrols I usually have 1-3 prematurely detonating, or hitting the ship and not detonating at all.

One torp flat missed, because I'm an Idiot. One Mod med Tanker needed a second. And a lot of the smaller merchs went with only 2-3 rounds of 105, and maybe some 37mm after they went dead in the water. And a large cargo only needs 3-5 anyway. Got crazy lucky mostly.
