Default Chronometer question

Maybe this is part of the bug, but I noticed that my sunrises seem to be a little late in the morning, like 10 AM?? Like I was watching the chronometer during high speed compression and if I can use the red light as an indicator of sunrise and sunset, it looks to be way off. This goes along with a question I posted in someone elses topic about there being a way to tell what time is sunrise and sunset, like it used to have in SH1. I found that to be valuable info. Thanks.

It keeps PH time. We need two watches. PH time zone and the time zone around Japan. I use the red light to know when to surface and submerge.

What is your latitude, longitude position. AFAIK the Chrono time is locked onto your home base time, so the further west/east you travel your sunrise/set times will change accordingly.

There is a solution comming up for SH4 (when SH4 works properly) ... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=113975

I may be wrong but I'm thinking it keeps time based on the port you sail from. So if you sail from Pearl it's set for one TZ, sail from Brisbane it's another, Fremantle still another and so on.

As far as knowing when sunup/sundown is, I use the map view if I'm in TC at the time. The instant it changes from day to night mode the sun is just setting, when it changes from night to day mode, sun is just rising. Works good for me

You might be right on that one. I will have to check next time my port changes.

I've heard about the "Chrono Bug" but what exactly is it? I obviously don't know enough to know it isn't working properly.

There are two things clock related.

One is discussed above, in that some people find the sunrise/sunset times out of wack with the ship clock, not realizing that the ship clock is not set to the time zone they are in. This is a feature, not a bug. It is the equivalent of the use of Zulu time in the military, though in this case the ship clock is set at base time.

The second "Chrono Bug" is that the stop watch does not interface with the TDC to determine target speed as it does in SH3, and supposedly was meant to in SH4 according to the manual. This is easily compensated for by using several realistic techniques, including measuring target distance travelled from point to point (you already have manually determined range and bearing that you can plot twice to measure between) against a known time, or measuring known distance travelled (usually the target's length) against x time, to calculate target speed. While the issue with the Chrono interface is reasonably considered a bug, it is far from a show stopper, and in a way, adds to realism for me. I use the in game stop watch as described above for manual solutions.

Hope that helps.
