Default torpedo targeting problem,harbors

so i managed to sneak into a nice harbor where i can actually be submerged and i see 3 large oil tankers sitting there with their bow facing me dead on. i fire a torpedo at each and every torpedo just went passed the HUGE TARGET that was the front of their boat and hit the damn wall behind them. and these tankers were then alerted and manned their deck guns so i couldnt surface and take them out. How the hell do i make my torpedos hit boats at dock? cause there must have been 30000 tons sitting there not moving at all.

Default Ships In Habours

Checked The Habour By Zooming In On It. Most Like The Ship Was Behind
A Island Wall. Need To Find Dock Entrance, Then Fire Torpedoes.
But U Might Not Get Out Alive.

I have never had any difficulty hitting a ship in port.

That being said, however, I think you're going to find it extremely difficult to sink a tanker that is only showing you its bow. Several threads have commented on how many torpedoes it takes to sink a tanker (10+) since that type of ship is compartmented AND designed to contain liquid. At port, tankers rarely seem to be filled with oil and are carrying water as ballast. Your only hope is getting a critical hit (blowing up the fuel tank, for instance) which is very difficult anyway and nearly impossible from a bow angle. You can pump torpedo after torpedo into the bow and all you'll be doing is flooding the front compartment, which was probably filled with ballast water to begin with.

One thing I would really love to see is a recognition book that shows critical hit locations to aim for.

I had the same issue at one point, and I could see through my periscope that my torpedoes were going under the target. I backed up, which gave them more time to get up from launch depth to near the surface and then they hit.

Oh yeah, you also have to consider arming range. 450 yards, someone said.

Is there depth underneath the tanker for it to sink, if you do manage a successful shot? I destroyed a ship in a shallow harbour, but it could not sink so the game did not credit me with the kill.

Btw, which harbour is this? Palau?

its a shallow harbor but deep enough to get kills its off the east coast of japan i forgot the neme but i went along the coast and sunk a few ships in port before but i had to use my deck gun. almost no ships except the very outside ones have a clear 90 degree shot on the side. are there any ports that have ships moored like in open water as was the case in pearl harbor when we got ambushed?

Not that I've found yet.

For small military targets I've noticed that in 1941 the port of Ragaul has two destroyers patrolling around 10kts in the deep water just a few km SE of it, between the two points of land.
