Ok now I know I have to save up my torpedoes and make everyone count but I jsut can't stop sinking DD's and DE's in the med theres so much of them I want to whittle their numbers down but still cant. I just had to sink 5 River class DD's so I could get to 1 Fiji class and 2 Dido class Light Cruisers. Does anyone else like lighting up DD's or have I got a problem?

To be honist its a rare occation for me to pick off DDs. While there is some satisfaction in sinking the hunter of the hunter, I do tend to stick to bigger merchants. Military targets for me are carriers, Battleships and cruisers

The only times I take down DDs is when I see a lone DD in a good position for me to take a shot or when I get my hands on homeing torps!

Apart from that, they are a waste of torps.

Yeah all those DD's there were hunting me though... is that a good reason? Well all but that town class :rotfl:. I don't like evading its too dangerous I much prefer eliminating any luck to the factor and sinking them. Its May 1943 and I still haven't lost a crew member.

Of course, there's satisfaction in taking out a DD, it may even help. On the other hand, it seems that the escorts will bunch up on you, if you sink one of their own. I usually will send a magnetic when one of the buggers gets into good position.

Well I think it depends very much of what mod you're using, what difficulty level and if you reload saves or not...

Well, it's late in '43 for me and the best convoys are heavily guarded by a mean bunch and it's hard to find a good place to shoot. I have been stocking my aft tube and reserves with homing torps and will use them to knock a couple of the escorts off the side I want to attack from as I shadow/hit&run the convoy all the way back to base.

Only problem is that the convoy ships make more noise than the escorts so I have to get between the escorts and the convoy ships, come to less than 20 meters, set gyroangle out and ahead of the escort and fire so that the acoustic tracking won't hear the convoy, only what's out ahead of it - the escort.

In '43 the tommies and yanks churn out warships faster than you can sink them, that is why Doenitz wants us to focus our attacks exclusively on merchants. Do not disappoint the Admiral.
