Default Choppy Graphics - need help

Hi All,

I played SH3 about a year ago and experienced no problem whatsoever with FR drops or choppyness but having recently rekindled my love for the game, I reinstalled it with patch 1.4eu and have noticed frame rate drops (or choppyness). How come I ask as my specs are:

3Ghz, 520RAM, Nvidia Radeon 5600 (not sure of the ext) 250M.

Any help, ideas would be really welcome.

Cheers,

CM

ATI made the Radeon series, not nVidia. Though it doesn't make much difference if you have a 5600 from either manufacturer, it's an old card.

Did you mean 512 mb ram? That's low for a gamer puter. With everything the same the 1.4b patch might be the culprit, though one of the more code-savvy forum members could answer that better than I.

Thanks. And yes I meant 512 but given I dont hear my c drive chugging away I dont think it is the culprit. I realise there are more advanced graphics card out there but I bought it a couple of years ago and it was supposed to be good at the time - it was recommended by friend who knows about these things.

Try a newer video driver. Have you installed any mods?

What Gizzmoe holds true, update the video drvers.

Also, if you can afford it go up to a gig of RAM. It will help.

Thanks for all your help guys. Regarding the video drivers, I tried a while ago to do this but its so confusing trying to find an appropriate one on the Nvidia website (as the documentation is terrible) and in the end I downloaded one which caused terrible problems, that took me ages to rectify. In the end I downloaded an old one which worked. Is there somethin obvious I'm missing ie an easy way to find out if a driver is going to work?

I usually get my drivers each month from CD magazines like LEVEL ,Extreme-PC and other like these (don't know if they are the same in your country, but they should be similar) .They aren't really expensive, cost about 3-4 euro's ,and level also has a full game each month and the other cd contents on a DVD which is gr8 for the price. Also,on some months, they give a special trial-version of games like Guild-wars,AA and such. They also have some drivers each month ,for ATI or NVIDIA cards ,and they usually work with no problem.

If you have Windows 2000 or XP (32-bit) use this driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.31.html

For Windows 9.x/ME this one:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.html
