Has anyone ever looked into doing this? I find the stars much too large and bright. It is like you have a sky full of Venus's and Jupiter's at their highest magnitude.

Using the SH3 Mini Tweaker I opened the Scene.dat file and found the following.
In the drop down menu that is on the right choose SkyObjRadius. In there are 3 settings.. SunRadius= MoonRadius= StarsRadius= I lowered the StarsRadius and I believe I saw a difference in the size of the stars. |

I agree, the stars are way too big, play any flight sim and you see the difference.
Havn't tried the starsradius yet, let us know if this works.

I tried playing around with the settings, but didn't notice any difference. I'm not sure if the settings took though. After I set a value in SH3 Mini Tweaker, and loaded the new value, I went into the game and didn't see any difference. After I exited the game and went back into Mini Tweaker, the original default value was back when I loaded the Tweak Files. Is it supposed to do this? I have SH3 on my G drive, and Mini Tweaker on C. Does this make a difference? I tried quite a few values, and didn't see any difference. What value did you use?

You have to remove the backup file that is created.Otherwise the game will not read the new setting and will continue to use the original.
So go to where the scene.dat file is and remove the backup file. |

Thanks for your help CWorth. I played around with a lot of values, and I did indeed see a difference in the size of the stars.
One thing I did notice was that if you went to extreme values, it starts to put stars in the water. I tried values under 200, and even into the negatives, and this was the result. I ended up using a value of 300 and left it there. Another thing I noticed, was that no matter what value I placed under the default 980, the stars reduced their size, but then stayed the same size as I lowered the values further. What I am trying to say is that there was only two sizes of stars. The size at the default value, and then a smaller but consistent size for all lower values. I would have liked to lower the size a little more, but the end result of not having a sky full of Stars of Bethleham makes it worthwhile! ![]() |

I am glad someone was able to verify my findings.Had to make sure that it was not just a fluke or me just seeing things.

CWorth,
-These settings are not about the size of the Moon, Sun or Stars. But they are only a standard radius from the player's uboat and the correct order is first the Moon, second the Sun and third the Stars. It's only to represent the real thing: more near from earth is Moon, then the Sun, then the Stars. If you change the order (in distance) you will have the stars drawn in front of the Moon for example. Hopes that you understood my bad english. And AFAIK the Stars scheme and size are hardcoded on SH3. :hmm: Rubini. |

So nobody knows how to make the stars smaller?
Can't we import stars from, say, Microsoft Flight Simulator into SHIII?

Its too bad that we can't import the stars from Microsoft Flight Simulator into SHIII. The night sky is so realistic. There are even a few add ons for stars in Flight Sim.
