I have to admit, I went back to the Grey Wolves mod and the more I play it the more I'm hooked. It's Oct. 1939 and I was attempting to traverse the English Channel in my VIIB when I was spotted by patrol boat. I immediately submerged because I knew he would be calling in some friends. Sure enough, a couple destroyers were soon on the scene. I ran silent running and attempted to weave through the gauntlet. Suddenly, the boat shuddered and came to a halt on the bottom. Sonar and radio operators dead. All compartments damaged with several taking on water. Both periscopes were hopelessly beyond repair. I put damage control and the other men to work on repairs to stop the inflowing deluge.
It turns out, in my attempt to escape, I had forgotten about the submerged mines and had accidentally run into one. The leaks were eventually fixed and remaining water pumped out as U-47 sat at the bottom of the Channel. Once it was nightfall, I surfaced. Suddenly, my lookout spotted a large freighter in the distance. A tempting target, but I decided otherwise. I reversed course back to Wilhelmshaven, which never looked so good. Absolutely incredible. My thanks to the folks who put this incredibly immersive mod together. The more I explore it's wonderful complexity, the more I'm amazed. The Captain |
