Default Graphics Question

I have a decent computer. It's above the minimum requirements, but below optimal. I'll be upgrading it within a month.

But in some screenshots, the game just looks better than mine. Mine has jagged edges. Some of the textures get screwy on the water.

If you look at http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=48292 and scroll down a bit, his game looks way better than mine.

Anyone know what the deal is? Is his game modded or something to make it look better?

I think he probably has a high end graphics card. My game doesn't look that good either.

Not sure how much you want to spend (range not exact numbers) but I can duplicate those graphics with an x800xt (I have a PE, but have seen/read posts of people using x800xt Pro)

Seen the x800's going for about 190 up to 540 (USD) depends on your range...

This ATi card AGP so if you upgrade to PCI-e better rethink but if AGP using an x800 card with Omega drivers been real good in SH3...

g/l and good hunting!

I can see he's using a hi-rez skin for the uboat anyway. It looks good. I can see the point where the detail on the deck gets fuzzy, which shows he doesn't have his AF full on. I'm using the stock sub skins, just the interior graphics mod, can't remember what it's called. But my sub skins looks good with the "bloom" feature (shift pg-up) hit twice, and Anisotropic filtering set to 4, and textures set to high quality in the profile I'm using for that application. This makes my deck detailed further away than his, but his skin is generally prettier looking.

System specs:
XP3200+ cpu
1 gig ddr 400 ram
Geforce 6800GT vid card.

The ATI cards apparently make the game look nicer, but that 6800gt is damned fast. You can tweak it every which way, individual settings for every game. Can't beat it.
