Default pop click & static in background of SH3 game music

I am totally new to this SIM and genre of naval sims. It looks very good and I look forwar to getting into it. After I loaded it onto my fairly high-end Dell gaming system P4, Raden 9700, SB Audigy 2, I've notice an irritating poping clicking static like noise in the backgrounhd as I navigate around the game and during the intro movie.

I'm a pretty experineced SIM gamer with MODS etc and I use lots of fight and racing games and do not hear this in the other games I currently run...like CFS3, FB, GTR. I have dropped my sound card acceleration settings to virtullay "none" to no avail.
Is there a known conflict of some kind with something I can check on with this particular game. I can't think of anything radically out of the ordinary with my system. Lots of RAM, lots of processor speed, an MS flight stick Logitech a steering wheel, cable modem, nearby, Harmon Kardon speakers and the usual programs.....I think. Any ides?

Thank you new sub sim friends

Maybe the intro movies somehow mess up the sound card driver, you could try to delete both wmv files or temporarily move them to another location. They are in data\movies\intro.

Do you use the latest sound driver? You could also try an older version...

Is the latest SH3 patch 1.4b installed?

yes I do have the latest drivers SBAudigy drivers installed and I have updated to 1.4b.I thionk the music adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game and hate not being able to use it.
The satic, pop clik sound still persists even with the music turned off in the options panel and/or the music volume turned way down.

I'm wodering if there is some other extension running in the background that is messing things up?

I have an SB Audigy 2 zs and I HAD the same problem. After some days of testing, I traced the problem down to the scene.dat file (I was trying some of the early scene.dat mods at the time). After I switched that scene.dat file for another scene.dat file the snaps and pops stopped, so it may be a file like that which is causing you problems.

If you have the basic SH3 with 1.4b, try lowering your audio hardware accelorator under the contol panel.

how do you "switch scene .dat files?" Switch to what?

do you mean adjust the sound card acceleration from the windows control panel - speker performance - advanced - button?

that is what I have done already and the popping clicking sound persists

Are you using any mods ???

The way you use mods is to get the JSME utility (JoneSoft Mod Enabler) and you can add and/or subtract mods without messing up the original files. This way you can try different mods to see if it will over ride the offending file that is causing your noise problem.

You can get his mod by going to the Subsim SH3 download site or over at U-boot.realsim.com site. http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ or go to the SH3 Workshop site and look under the sticky where the mods are located and you can download it there too.

I just completed a complete removal, reinstall and re-patch to 1.4b.

Reduced sound card acceleration to "none" Sound sampling rate to good instead of high. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

I noticed someting this time. As the red scrollbar loads teh game, the chirping , clicking sound starts at about the half way point intothe game loading sequence. I guess whatever part of the game is having issues with my rig is being loaded at that time. The sound continues as the game loads and persists throughout. I can only describe it as a chirping, static, clicking sound. It'svery irritating and makes the game unplayable for me.

If I can't sort this out, I'll have to bring it back to EB games and go back to racing cars or combat flight sims.

I can also recall another UBIsoft product having similar sound issues......Lock On - a Fighter jet game. I can't remember how I resolved that one but am almost certain it was by slowing down the sound hardware acceleration.
Still looking for ideas to chase down..

i have a sb audigy 2 value -- lots of issues w/ multiple games, crackling, popping. most of them were solved by:

1. uninstall all sb software
2. download latest beta drivers
3. install drivers only. do not install audio hq, eax control panel, or any other utility

I had the same problem when I first installed it....if I remember correctly....I had to uninstall completely and then reinstall and download the patch......I see from your previous post that you have already done this....you might try once more and install in safe mode if you can....I also emailed Ubi concerning some other problems once and they were helpful....so you might also try that.....its a great game....so dont give up....good luck!

problem solved!!

after checking into my sound card drivers again, I discovered an automatic update function at Soundblaster.com. The OEM Dell CD that comes with the machine loads a software version for my Audigy 2 card that I could not update via the usual methods at the Creative site. When I scoured the soundblaster site I found that the auto update function was able to scan my Dell and identify the precise updates my particular card needed - something I obviously had not done properly in my earlier attempts. After running that update, lots of stuff got updated and things now work fine. No more sound anomlalies, click, chirps, or pops. Watch out for downloaded updates for DELL purchased hardware. Theirs is "different" from off the shelf items and may not be compatible with updates from the origiinal hardware component manufacturer. I am now back on board trying to blow stuff up with my U boat! Dive dive dive!!
