For anyone who doesn't know Neal's home is in the direct path of Rita.

Having gone through a cat 4 Hurricance I have an idea of what he is in for. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

I have a son and granddaughter in Houston so I am concerned as he will likely do as I do and not as I would hope and leave.
While I did a book on Andrew (went down the day after for 2 weeks), I personally have only been in a cat 2 and that was bad enough. Hard to sleep when stuff is slamming into your home but would guess it is harder when you home is being blown away. In some ways the aftermath is worse. MREs get to taste pretty bad after a week.
Hurricane season is only half over, I might still be on a short list for the next one.
Can't close the hatch and submerge, either! Gotta feel for the people in this one's path like the last one. two bad ars ladies!!

My sister lives in Friendswood, TX, and got the hell out. As you all know that I live in Dallas, we wont be seeing the worst of what is left of Rita.

I maybe out a few days if the electricity doesnt go out.

Well even though I dislike the American Government and say evil things, in the end I do worry about peoples. SO I must say, be strong and hope all goes well as I shall be thinking about you peoples.

Remember this piece,
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going"
That piece has helped me in some tough spots through my life

He's basically good to go, as long as no Dutch girls give him lectures on American foreign policy.

His house is another question. The lawn might get watered, inside and out.

The amount of traffic coming from the southern part of the state through my city is incredible.

Those poor people.

God Bless them all.

My Town (Lufkin) is in direct connection to Houston via 59 North, I went to town yesterday to kill time, the loop is blocked off because both North and South routes are going North, never in my 18 yrs (well 18 years starting Sunday, yes exactly when the Hurricane will hit my town) have I ever seen so many people in my town of 32,000. Its a complete gridlock as far as the eye can see on 59, its scary because the Hurricane isn't just going to graze my area, we are going to get head on just like Houston, hopfully it will be alot weaker by the time it makes landfall. To the people on the run, you are in our thoughts and prayers, God bless you and your families.

Good luck Dutch... I'm in Wichita Falls... Seven hours by car north of you... when the roads aren't choked.

We are taking in all the evacuees we can. More than 2000 arrived today. Upwards of 5000 are expected Saturday.

Tragedy upon tragedy.... a bus load of senior citizen evacuees burst into flame and killed 20 of them. Emergency crews couldn't get to them because of the traffic.

Heartbreaking these days.

500 more from Beaumont headed here.

I will be on duty tomorrow. (city EMS) I'm sure it will be a busy day.

In Baton Rouge we lost power for two days for each of the hurricanes and our streets are flooded/choked with folks from New Orleans and other areas. Luckily, we had no damage to our house but trees have been down all over, falling on houses and cars and such. It looks like the hurricanes have hit the east and western edges of the state and in so doing pretty much tore down most of the coast except for the Morgan City area (my home town).

Damo1977, I ain't really from Old Zealand (wouldn't know where it is) but I have always thought well of folks from every country. Had a few friends in college from Austrailia and Asia and they were very nice folks. You could say that heaven should help me since I graduated from the American school system and I would point out, for what its worth, I have my on library of history books but the problem is that I can't remember it all. The good thing about that is I can read the books over and over and all the info is new! j/k If you ever go this way let me know and you are invited to enjoy some home cookin (boiled crabs/crawfish, etc).

I hope everyone gets out alive ok! But it's still a bummer to think about all the people that might very well not have a home to go back to when it's over, like what happened to residents of the New Orleans area.
