Default SH5 Range Help

Hey all.
So i have been playing silent hunter 5 with twos mod and practicing manual TDC and following along with a youtube tutorial. Once i have the bearing and marked everything down on the map i use the stadimeter to get the range, the thing is the distance always seems to be wrong ?? i still have the enemy's boat + mine shown on the map so i compare my distance then i will mark the center off the enemy's ship and draw too mine and the numbers are both completely different not sure what i am doing wrong. I linked a video off the problem i am having any assistance would be great cheers !

I will answer your question by providing a counter suggestion. Forget the stadimeter, forget trying to get precise ranges. Instead, use historical methods that make it much simpler, such as this gentleman outlines in the link below in post #2:

He has hit the nail on the head based on everything I’ve read from actual KTBs.

It’s also important to remember the range does that matter to the solution the closer your gyro angle is to 0. So use range only for situational awareness, it’s not necessary for much else unless you are shooting at high gyros.

Thank you for the reply very much appreciated i will have a read off that post in a minute. Thing that bugs me is why is the Range so different in the method i used? like its nearly 1k meters off.

I think it comes down to the fact that the stadimeter in general is not an accurate device, there’s a ton of room for error. May be bugged as well, but I’m not sure because I never really used it.

That's because you didn't send mast height data to TDC using SOAN (aka recognition manual). Stadimeter can not compute range without this data.
