Wow. I liked him in pretty much anything he was in. He was one of the cool ones.

Among his many roles one of my favorites was the smarmy politician in Bullitt.

Bridge at Remagen got my vote; he could be the good bad guy too And of course I (or one of my brothers) couldn't get by without the Secret Sam Weapon Attache case!

Now I just keep up with O.N.K.E.L

I remember my childhood/youth where I, once per week saw U.N.C.L.E on German TV.

A prolific actor with 226 credits to his name including "The Bridge at Remagen" where he played Maj. Paul Kreuger.

He was in the original version of The Magnificent Seven also. He will be missed.

@ Aktung: that picture of the 'Secret Sam' outfit sent me straight back to age ten (my brother had one). Not shown in the photo is the round red "grenade".... packed with percussion caps, it sounded like a bloody car backfiring and could easily have put in a window. What a fantastic toy that was.

I so loved RV in The Bridge At Remagen too... how could a guy so suave and 'sixties' play an aristocratic Wehrmacht officer so well, but he sure did.

I have the DVD of " The Bridge of Ramagen and have seen a few " reruns " of the man from U.N.C.L.E. Robert Vaughan always had a commanding presence in everything he was in.

Rest in Peace.

It's been a while since I have seen the movie. I may have to dig it back out and watch it. While I'm at it, I may as well pull out " The Enemy below " with Kurt Jurgens and Robert Mitchum and make it a double header.

I'm currently planning a couple of paintings based around the Ludendorff bridge... it's always fascinated me, probably because of this movie
