Installing GWX on Windows 7 - Help!

Hi,

I've installed SH3 without problem, from Steam. Now I want to install the GWX Gold mod which I've download the seven bin files and the exe file. When I try to run the exe, I get an error -

I've searched the forums here as well as general web searches for how to install this on Windows 7, with no luck. I've tried placing the eight files in the SH3 folder inside the Steam folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3), with the same error.

Please, someone help. Thanks.

create an folder on your desktop and entitle it "GWX"

place the .bin files and the exe for GWX into that folder

run the .exe

it will ask for the path to your Silent Hunter III folder

direct it to

C: - program files x86 - steam - steamapps - common - silent hunter III

then click next

the installer should take care of the rest

if i read the above error message correctly, one of your .bin files is either missing or corrupt... try downloading 7 .bin again

Sounds like he doesn't have them all in one folder GR.

Copying them or downloading/saving them into the SH3 Steam Apps folder might have failed because it is in Program Files. Likely UAC prevented them getting there, or stay there just temporarily until after the next reboot/logon. It's a security precaution of Vista/W7/W8.

Luckily the GWX bin files and installer does not have to be in the SH3 folder when executed to install. But you must execute the GWX installer as an administrator.

Gentlemen, thanks for the advice. To this point, I've done as advised; placed all the files in the same folder (on desktop), downloaded file 7 again and replaced the previous with the thought it might be corrupt, and I've also verified all of the MD5 codes and they are all fine. I am pointing the install to the correct folder within Steam.

Still, the same error message occurs and I can't get it to install. Any more ideas?

OK, I was able to install. I noticed that the message was indicating a "GWX3(1)-7.bin file, but all the files I downloaded didn't have the "(1)" as part of the file name. I changed each file name (as the installer was looking for files with this in it) to include the "(1)" and it installed perfectly.

I hope this helps anyone else that runs into this.

YA IM HAVING A TOTALY DIF WIN 7 AND GWX3 PROBLEM..MINE INVOLVES RUNNING WITH THE STEAM RETAIL VERSION..IT INSTALS FINE,, IT STARTS FINE... IT GETS ME ALL THEYT WAY INTO BOTH SINGLE MISSIONS AND CAREER. HOWEVER THIS IS MY ISSUE..ONCE I START A MISSION VIA CAREER OR SINGLE MISSION THE GAME CRASHES AT ABOUT 90% OF THE LOAD.. I NEED HELP
