Default Why are Americans giving up their citizenship?

Now this really surprised me...the levels of disillusionment over tax appears to be growing...only small numbers atm but steadily growing.

I wish HMRC would chase the tax dodgers as much as the IRS does.

Quote:
The number of Americans giving up their citizenship has rocketed this year - partly, it's thought, because of a new tax law that is frustrating many expats.
Goodbye, US passport.
That's not a concept that Americans contemplate lightly. But it's one that many of them seem to be considering - and acting on.
The number of expatriates renouncing their US citizenship surged in the second quarter of 2013, compared with the same period the year before - 1,131 cases to 189 in 2012. It's still a small proportion of the estimated six million Americans abroad, but it's a significant rise.

Very small number. So small in fact, it leads me to think that there is probably a very specific factor involved. I wonder what tax bracket these folks are in, and what they do for a living. I would guess business executive types that keep most of their assets overseas as it is already.

Because they are uneducated, upper crust, cowards who have not had any "cash in the game"?

They are usually celebs with enough money to move out with no issues, they do not have any relatives in a cemetary due to wars, friends and family of elites are exempt from service.

That way, they can profit from the death, and denounce it at the same time...

The Rich feel there is no need to pay Tax on the grounds they are few in number.

Speaking of the rich, the world's top 1% are estimated to have around £15 Trillion stashed away in secret locations.

Pissed off, while trying to be kinda amusing about it.

All seriousness I am feeling closer to what Stalin instituted than what George Washington instituted.

I feel dirty and violated, and have a hard time defending American actions to others.

But, but the government is protecting us from the terrorists. nudge, nudge.
They're just not happy unless they're fighting a war of some kind against something. It's the only way the liars and con artists in DC can stay relevant.

Oh. Yeah. Why are Americans giving up their citizenship? Because they can afford to and they don't want to be around when the shtuff hits the fan.

If someone wants to surrender their citizenship because their taxes are too high, good for them. I think we need to encourage anyone who wishes to renounce their citizenship to do so and leave.

Yep...

Cuz America is all about shutting up, and doing what someone tells you to do, to pay whatever you are told or GTFO.

Maybe Platypus, you are the problem, and not the dissenters?

Your blind obedience is disgusting to real Americans, the ones who always question why, and never back down.

I am sorry for your condition, but maybe you should leave, as you miss the point of this nation, and its formattion.
