Default Playing SH5 on a Laptop

For anyone contemplating playing SH5 on a Laptop. It is playable, providing it is capable, spec wise. But it is virtually unplayable using the touchpad mouse. To be able to play properly, you need an external mouse plugged in for quicker scrolling. Using the touchpad scrolling is useless for playing games when a mouse is needed as well as keyboard controls. I play the game on my Laptop Windows 8, because my older desktop PC Windows XP is not up to spec for playing this version of Silent Hunter. I just play SH3 GWXV3 on the desktop PC.

I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree! I play on a laptop with Windows 8 as well and the touchpad works fine. Its not like some games where you are flying around on the mouse at a hundred miles an hour.

The touchpad is more than manageable for SH5.

The only problem people might have with a laptop is that the graphics cards may not be up to spec, so it will have to be a higher end laptop that allows the game to run properly. For the same price, you can get a good desktop which will run the game better.

Obviously the game is better on a desktop, as desktops are made more for gaming than laptops, but if you can't afford both and need a laptop, if you've a good one then SH5 is more than playable on it.

I respect your comment Tat, but I find it much easier with a plug in mouse, which also has the extra scroll wheel. My Laptop has a four core processor and Radeon 7600 graphics card. It runs the game quite good with no problems so far. I have the following mods installed :-

Open Horizons
Accurate German Flags
A Fist Full of Emblems V1.5
Mighty Fine Crew Mod 1.2.1 with beards
Env_Natural_Wave_mechanics by AOTD
U-boat Watch Crew Routine SFX
Unterseaboot SFX
Equipment Upgrade Fix V1.4 by The Beast
Fix Update 0-021 by The Dark Wraith
Steel Vikings Interior Mod V1.2
" " " " Patch
U Interface V4.14

I would like to use TDW V7 Interface, but I can't seem to get it JSGME ready, for me to install it, because I can't get to grips with the tutorials on how do change the scripts. So I have give up on it.I just wish that all the mods were JSGME ready because altering files etc is not for the faint hearted when it comes to computers. It would be even better if there was one complete supermod like GWX for SH3 which can be installed correctly with JSGME Maybe eventually?

Hello all
I am using an ASUS W 64bit Win7 -/intel core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8CPU's), ~2.0GHz
8+G ram
Display set 1600x900 set at 32bit
With most of the usual goto mods, the laptop performs exceptionally.
Though I do agree that the touchpad is workable, I do also agree that a mouse is going to make gameplay faster and more comfortable. If your traveling or something and a mouse can't be used, you can get by.
As far as the laptop goes, Ill play this game on this little box until I get my monster desktop built.
Gute Jagd Kaluens!
