The British Invasion continues!

I saw this on TV last night, about food venders who sell their special prepared food out of trucks, which is nothing new really. But this gentlemen is from the UK, and sells Fish and Chips for around $7.00 per order.

He calls his famous dessert a "British Sweetie",lol Which for him is a deep fried Mars candy bar! Dips it in a thin batter, then deep fries it. Once its done, he adds powdered sugar on top. Geez, that would put a diabetic in a coma!

Is that what a British dessert is really like!?!

Scotland are famous for their 'deep fried' anythings. So I'd say north of Jim.

The Scots will fry anything as long as it tastes like chocolate & whisky.

How many pieces of fish do you get with an order in the UK?
Or does it depend where you get it?

And lastly, what type of fish do they mostly use? The article about this cook, says he uses several different types, so I was just curious.

Best one I heard of was the deep fried pizza...

In regards to fish and chips, it usually depends on the place (not plaice ) that you order it from, but it's usually one or two pieces. Size usually isn't too bad, enough to grace a plate, is around here anyway.
Fish, well the big three are the most popular Plaice, Haddock and Cod. Cod is the most popular and traditional...but thanks to overfishing it's also the most expensive, and chances are that the Cod that you eat won't come from anywhere local to the place you buy it at.

Disclaimer: I don't usually actually eat Fish and Chips, more of a Sausage and Chips man myself...not a big fan of fish...which, living in an old fishing town, can be a bit awkward...

On a...slightly...related note, if you like railways, fish and history, you could do worse than to have a gander at this:

Don't they have a special nickname for sausage over there?

Love the steam engines! Fun to envision operating one, until you realize what a dirty job that was years ago. All that coal dust and smoke. Imagine the health problems they had back then.

Most classic is Banger, as in Bangers and Mash (Sausage and Mashed Potato).

Yes, it's an oft forgotten fact that a lot of drivers who switched from Steam to diesel were glad of the fact that they could go to work in one set of clothes and come back from work in the same set!

Now days we have Red Robin sports bars/restaurants over here. They have artic cod fish and chips. Best I've ever had over any other in the US.... even better than 'ol Arthur Treacher's fish and chips that was around in the 70s.

Sadly tho, the rest of the food at Red Robins sucks.

Bangers, that's it!!

Oberon, have you ever had a chance to ride on any of the steam trains that still operate over there on short excursions? There aren't any close to where I live, sadly, would love to try it just once.

As for the Fish and Chips, if the fiish is as good as it looks, I want a piece at least 12 inches long, and a mountain of chips! Its now officially on my bucket list, to get to the UK and get the original Fish and Chips! Of course as long as it is going to take me to save up to get there, I might have to get a loan from the British Govt for the meal, lol

Fish and Chips, the most popular dish for decades in the UK but beaten into second place by Chicken Tikka Masala in recent years and even that has been topped now by Chinese Stir-Fry apparently:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-stir-fry.html

I regularly eat all three do I'm well happy
