Did They Debug Silent Hunter 5 Yet?

When first released Silent Hunter 5 had review scores like 6/10 and complaints of massive bugs so I never tried it. However, I keep my hopes alive telling myself Falcon 4.0 started out horrible too and with time became a jewel.

Tell me if SH 5 is ready to sail and if I should give it a try or do the problems persist and I should try Grey Wolves instead.

In short, No. Ubisoft Dropped SH5 like a sack of potatoes. The last patch came out a few weeks after initial release and official support was dropped last year. All patches, fixes and such beyond v1.2 are from the mod community. If you want to play SH5 and you have played any other game in the series, accept the fact that you will mod this game to make it playable.

I just wish I had a dollar for every time someone has come on these boards asking that question without reading any of the threads. Yes, a lot of great mods have made SH5 very playable, and that more than a year ago. The DRM was removed several months ago. A lot of people have been enjoying it for a very long time now.

If someone can't be bothered to just browse the forum and click through one page where they'd find the exact same question being asked, then I don't fault the above posters for being curt with them at all. It's tiring to see lazy people asking for everyone else to "convince them" they should play SH5, or to do all the work of browsing the mod forum for them in order to give them a report on the game.

God helps those that help themselves. And that goes for Subsim too.

Normally we are just about the friendliest forum around. But SH5 has been out almost two years now, and as Mookie said, it gets old seeing the exact same question asked every other week.

I wonder if we should put up a sticky with the name being something like "Is SH5 playable yet?" or something that would really call attraction to the very question. Then someone could write a "once and for all" very honest and detailed but short and interesting yet not boring or pompous yet at the same time technical but not so much that we lose the laymen but also keep it interesting to the tech heads while it answers the simple question of playability and still gives all the details of the game to date but doesn't offend or turn anyone off......

....or not...
