It's all over the news here in Pennsylvania. Paterno should have done more, and his reaction demonstrates that he knows that. NCAA football is no stranger to closed doors and dirty secrets, so I can't say that I find the cover-up to be all that surprising. The sad thing is that he was going to retire as arguably the greatest coach in the history of collegiate football. He encouraged his players to achieve academic excellence to compliment their athletic prowess. PSU's program had developed a squeaky-clean reputation among both the media and fans. Now it would seem that this reputation will recieve a fair amount of tarnish.

The tarnish will go away after the dust settles. Joe Pa will come away clean. He already did the mea culpa, saying he wishes he had done more at the time.

We forgave Nixon and he didn't admit to anything. Joe's gonna be OK.

It is always the hope that it does not take in too much space in the media, but he knows what is right or wrong about it mentioned in the context.

And I will agree with you that when Sandusky is convicted, he can be called a sexual predator. With those predators, they need to be given a gun and a single round. See if they actually will do the right thing.

First read about this story today, really nasty stuff. "should have done more" doesn't begin to cover it, as far as I can see.

Watching the local news right now. Paterno is out, will not finish the season. Fired by board of trustees.

Given the firestorm of bad publicity this has generated I don't see where they had a choice in the matter. Ugly end to a glorious career. I'd be curious to know if the former grad student, now a coaching assistant, who witnessed Sandusky's crime in 2002 but didn't report it to the police will still be on the sidelines for the next game.

Joe might be clean, but someone has been covering this up for an awful long time. Like since 1998 and the man in charge of the investigation, DA Ray Gricar disappered in 2005. His car was found abandoned with no sign of him.

http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/local_news/psu-coverup-doesn't-shock-ex-reporter-111111

Quote:
Letrell Crittenden is a Penn State graduate. He later covered the crime beat as a reporter for a Centre Daily Times.

We asked Crittenden about the disappeance of Centre County district attorney Ray Gricar, who once investigated former Penn State assistant Jerry Sandusky.
Sandusky is now charged with 40 counts in a child sex-abuse scandal. Gricar didn’t charge Sandusky in 1998 with some of the counts in the 2011 indictment.
Gricar disappeared in 2005.
Former investigators who worked the case and Gricar's family now say they don't believe there's any connection between his disappearance and his 1998 investigation into Sandusky.
But local investigators now plan to review gricar's 1998 investigation of sandusky.
Crittenden covered Gricar at one time.
"When I found out there was no prosecution I was not surprised, but that has more to do with just the basic nature of the community there," Crittenden says.
Gricar vanished in 2005. His car was found abandoned in Lewisburg. His laptop computer was fished out of a river three months later. The hard drive was later found smashed. No files were recovered.

"For whatever reason he's gone, no one knows," Crittenden said. "To me it's just another sign of how much is covered up within Happy Valley."
Crittenden also thinks there is a lot more to the Sandusky story, which also features former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, an assistant coach, and three former top Penn State officials.
"I think that this is a cover up of epic proportions," Crittenden said.
He says reporters always had trouble digging up sensitive information at Penn State, and he believes there's much more to this story.
"There are other people who knew about this who did not come forward.
