SH3 Commander killed my Kaleun?
I started a new career and had a very sucessful first patrol sinking 80K Tons of merchant shipping before returning to base with no damage taken to the U-Boat.
I did indeed make it home in one piece as medals were issued to my crew and my renown score had increased accordingly. On exiting the game from the 'office' screen SH3 Commader popped up and informed me that my U-boat was lost at sea on the date of my return! ![]() I figured something is either badly wrong with my SH3 install or SH3 Commander itself, so I am going to reinstall everything and start form scratch again. My question is... has anyone else ever had this happen to them, and if so how can I avoid this in the future? |

SH3CMDR didn't do it, SH3 did. CMDR just read your saved game file patrol report for you.
There are a lot of reasons that SH3 does this. One is a mod conflict, but there are more.

hmmm, the only thing I did differently to usual was award medals, qualification and choose the KDB hydrophone upgrade immediately on return instead of on a new reload of SH3 prior to starting patrol 2. Perhaps that led to the problem...

I never make any changes on the first patrol, either before leaving or after coming back. Start patrol, finish patrol, exit game, open Commander, update Personnel file, do whatever else I want to do from there (crew management, play with the log, etc.). Then if I want to change stuff on the boat I wait until I go back in the game to start the next patrol. So far, so good.

Speaking of dying Kaluens, why is it that we (the Kaleun) only die if the boat is lost? We should be just as vulnerable as the rest of the crew!

That's a good point, but how many players want to read a report that says they were killed by an aircraft attack, and the 1WO brought the boat safely home?

If the entire bridge crew is killed, hit Escape, and Abandon Carreer. You can roll a die for partial losses. Although I won't do it, you certainly can. We're all individuals. Enjoy the game as you see fit. |

Not much chance of that...my Kaleun is usually sat in front of the monitor, away from the muck and bullets.
