Hi all,
I tried for a response over on u-boat.net but got nothing so I thought maybe someone here may be able to help. I'm looking for operations of U-29 prior to the war. I have a picture of U-29 that has taken a Do 18 under tow in calm weather. Unfortunately, there is no date, place, landmark or otherwise mentioned and the aircraft codes are not visible. Given the camouflage worn by said Dornier I would assume it to be prior to May 1939 (when Küstenfliegerstaffeln aircraft were ordered re-camouflaged in the three-tone style) The date, though, is just a guess. If anyone is able to help, if only with sailing dates, for the boat - or knows how I can go about finding them I would really like to hear from you! It's the Do 18 that I am interested in. Thanks

Maybe you can find out which mark the Dornier Do 18 was...
http://www.luftarchiv.de/index.htm?/...rnier/do18.htm There are images of all the types to find out some differences. If there is trouble with the language, feel free to ask... danasan |

Thanks for the help.
The Dornier appears to be a pre-service type as there is no dorsal apperature as evident on D models, let alone turrets on the G versions. However, given the testing of the early model Do 18s (1935 - 6) and the relative lateness of service introduction for U-29 (Nov 1936), I'm guessing this is a mid-1937 photo (brightness, seegang). I do appreciate the help
