Default Battle of Savo ..Pic Heavy.

US invasion of GC and Battle of Savo.

US TF and Invasion force arrive at night. Invasion Force heads west and TF covers around Savo.

Next day they patrol around being attacked my mass planes.

Late that night the JP TF shows west of Savo, bout 6 CA's, Kuma and a few DD's. Heavy fog and storm clouds, can't see anything, set up to shoot by radar using Okane.

Hit a Takeo CA with all four, it later sinks. Chase forever and sink a Kuma.

Weather clears to light fog, The fleets surface battle, many large CA's go at it.

Hours later, almost morn, I set up and sink another Takeo leaving the battle

Ships from both side dead on the water battle it out all next day.

Not bad for a lil Sboat. Put 5 torps in other ships that didn't sink.

I'd be interested in knowing the answer to this to. Is it part of the original game, or is it part of a mod?

I haven't checked the ME, I refuse to peek in there, but got to be Lurker's work with RSRD as it's perfectly scripted to the ships, dates and locations. Even the US picket boats are there. I have no idea if the Solomons is in stock as none of the map labels are. You can watch the battle here historically to prepare as the JP moves exact.

Just beware the planes are murderous in number and I basically stay dived all day. With all the ships and planes, things get real slow.

Here they come right on time. I don't know that I'll do it in a pigboat again, can't keep battery charged for all the planes and you have to be in front.

He did the entire Solomon's Campaign perfectly, from the Shoho invasion..I got it earlier to the big one, battle of Coral Sea...couldn't catch them in my pigboat to the battle of Santa Cruz...headed that way now.

Knowing history is cheating!

Nice shots! - but in a S-boat? Anything with less than 10 tubes is just so...

Thanks, I have RSRD installed. I'll have to check it out.

I hope you managed to save "Astoria", "Quincy", and "Vincennes"! IMHO the New Orleans Class was one of the most beautiful types of cruiser ever built.

Yeah, here's (another) something missing in SH IV.

Recently I read ("War in the Boats" or more probably in "The Rescue"?) how someone from HYPO or The Old Man himself would pay a visit to the skipper before leaving for patrol. Pulling the skipper to a side and handing him a note with coordinates and time: "We think it would be a good idea, if you could be here!"... on several occasions the time would be bang on even to the minute!

A large deal of the subs successes can be adressed directly to the codebreakers work - so in that sense, knowing history could be seen as the work of intelligence...?

Perhaps this should get worked into messages.txt...

Well, it's a balance. We have history and with RSRD, no doubt can take advantage of it. Still, many of the battles are the luck of the draw even if you know about where they're. You have to be at the right place to make them spawn on the path. People would be shocked if they really found some of the battles and invasion forces. The right time you can watch mass carrier plane attacks on other carrier groups.

I agree, skippers got clues and also many Ultra reports from base and other subs, something lacking in the game. TMO use to include the radio guy that picked these transmissions up, but it was a little too detailed in convoy movements.

Take the Battle of Santa Cruz..I've looked for a long time to do this battle even though I've looked for it, but found it finally. It's one of the largest TF in the game. I've chased this TF for over 400 miles all night trying to do an end around...finally in position, so hope I don't blow it like my first setup... Hopefully I can watch the US planes attack it in mass soon and join in. Last large battle I pulled over 20 US pilots out of the sink...fun to do when it's not a mission.

OK! I'm using RFB/RSRDC and I can't see this battle! I'm there on 8/8/1942 through 8/9/1942 (twice now) and nobody shows up. What is the trick?
