Default Theres just something about SH3+GWX

I recently purchased SH4 (now I have a machine strong enough to run it) and found myself yearning for the good old TypeVII after only 10 minutes playing and felt like a spy aboard an American sub lol.

Within the first half hour I found lots of things I disliked, but on the other hand, SH4 does have many cool features. But I cant shake the feeling that I belong in a U-Boat.

Hopefully the U-Boat Missions addon/expansion will solve this problem to some extent. But I know for a fact I'll be jumping back into SH3 before too long.

I wont uninstall SH4 though, now its all pacthed up and with a few good mods it is a very good simulation but nothing will really ever beat SH3+GWX

I gladly live with the alleged "outdated" graphics because the strategic and tactical parts of the simulation with GWX are outstanding.
I play for the thrill of the hunt, not for the eye candy.

I understand what your aying but in fairness to SH4, it is a lot younger and with some of the mods already available, is really very good.

Ultimately tis usually down to peoples preferences regarding the theatre of operations.

I play them both but obviously predominantly GWX.

Both have something different to offer, and theres a lot of things in SH4 I'd like to see in SH3 and vise versa, I guess playing them both is a kind of compromise.

I know all of SH3's quirks and flaws and suddenly finding myself in SH4 was a little disorientating as well as being a bit of a culture shock.

It'll probably grow on you in time....but if not, there's always GWX

I was wondering what the alternatives to GWX3 are, I tried LSH3 but didn't like it, I heard of a couple others but don't know anything about them. My computer can handle it all just fine so thats not a problem I'm just looking for something new to try.

There is also NYGM and WAC.....both are highlighted in the SH3 mods section.

I spend most of my time at the maps and crew management screen, and hardly any time in a 3D view unless I'm viewing/engaging a target (or admiring my beautiful Uboat from the ship cam).

I haven't had the opportunity to try SH4 yet. Maybe someday. But SH3/GWX has me hooked. Same as Dangerous Waters grabs me... actually thinking of reinstalling that beast.

I have SH4, but until I can upgrade it'll stay on my shelf. (And the bits that I have played really appeal to me - There are some things that I really wish could be modded into SH3) So until then it's GWX... Not that I mind

I play UBM 1.5 with Operation Monsun, and patrol in Type IIs, VIIs and IXs. It's a great experience. The funny part is I still play SH3 with GWX as well, partly because of all the available experiences and partly because of the 'eye candy', which is to say that SH4 is better graphically but none of the SH4 mods have the Kiel locks or blimps or cool stuff like that.

You know, there are people who still play Aces of the Deep for that very reason. They claim that the graphics are worse than SH3 but the experience is still the best there is. I might agree because SH3 still has some faults that can't be fixed, but I like looking at the pretties too. That, and SH3 Commander and FLB Sales's Simfeeling mod.

I'm trying real hard to get into ops monsun + omegu. It looks great, but still not really yet thrilling me the same way sh3 + gwx + (insert laundry list of mods) does.

I hate the way ships explode in my install of SH4 with UBM and OM/OMEGU, But the load times are alot faster than GWX.

Also I heard that NYGM is what is recommended if your system can't run GWX, Iv'e never tried WAC either. If anyone who has tried all three has anything to say about what has what, that would be appreciated

It's that "laundry list" of mods that keeps SHIII alive for me - over SHIV+OM+OMgui. There's just so many more years of modding that has gone into SHIII (that and SH3 Commander). I tried 4 GUI's before I found the one that fits, that's just not an option with SHIV+OM at this time.

I've still yet to see what LSH or WarAce is like. For all its warts, there's a lot of life left in SHIII.

However if I could only have one SubSim on my computer, it'd be SHIV. It does it all (and the Pacific theatre is a whole different kind of war), plus there is some really amazing stuff being modded on the SHIV side right now, like a WWI Subsim.

GWX was designed to run on the same machine specs as SH3 as is NYGM.

WAC needs better/greater machine specs than two aforementioned.
