Default [WIP] More Crew on Deck Gun

Well, like a loose tooth, I just couldn't quit messing with this. Getting more crew to the deck gun isn't that hard. What's stymied me so far is getting the additional crew to rotate with the gun. I can get any two crewmen to do so, but no more. There's gotta be something somewhere that controls it, but I've been unable to find it.

What I have now is two additional crewmen who stand near the gun, but don't move. It looks great from some angles, but once you rotate the gun, not so much.

So is it better to have an less-than-ideal implementation or to just stick with two men?

A little different version with a third guy actually manning the gun...

...but he doesn't rotate with it.

Dude you are a hero! You really get into all this stuff and i like it! What i was wondering also. Would it be possible to have crew lined up on the deck if you are leaving port perhaps? Or even on the u-boat in the u-boat pens before a patrol? Anyway , love your work!

Nice

@ oscar: I have not seen it with 5, but have seen the more crew on deck with 4, both with the GWX Crew and Ducimus. Don't think it was ever released as a mod though. Perhaps there were issues with it.

ditto, awesome work.
dont worry re the crew not moving with the traversing gun, the gun had to be fed with ammo, and that meant crew standing around the deck. the pics of your work implies this happening beautifully.

the idea of the deck parade in and out of port is great too, tho how does the flak crew look?

I could do the guys lined up on deck if there were more waypoints defined in the GR2 files. The only wayoints on the deck are the two for the guns.

Nope. Waypoints are specific spots defined in the GR2 files where you can place crewmen. You can perform any animation from any waypoint. Some animations are centered on the waypoint, some are offset left, right, fore, aft, even up or down. Most animations are very specialized for the waypoint they're designed for. If played from a different waypoint, the guy could be floating in the air or standing in a wall. So finding an animations that works for a particular waypoint is a lot of trial and error. Sometimes you can use the offset to your advantage by putting the guy on a different waypoint and the offset sticks him where you want.

But if you don't have a waypoint where you want a guy, there's nothing you can do until we learn how to add waypoints. You can pull them up in the Goblin editor and see where the are and aren't located.

Even with the limitations of movement etc it still looks better Heretic, certainly more realistic better than just two guys stood there.

If you finally figure out a way to make them move, that will be wonderful!

If not, they look fine the way they are. Just having them there changes everything.

Awesome work, Heretic! I prefer the first two pics, where they are just standing near the gun. They interfere with the gun less, and as was stated before, they appear to be on deck for ammo support.

Your efforts are highly appreciated by all of us!!
