Default Playing with No Map Contact Update

I have just started to play like this... since I find that the game is just too easy otherwise.

Now I feel like im in a big confusing world of hurt lol

I regularly dive to listen for contacts and then when I detect a ship I steer towards its bearing... but im not having much luck.

To quote Good Morning Vietnam

" We are having a major problem finding the enemy.... "

For those of you who play with No Map Contact Update.... could you offer any tips?

I would be really grateful

After that, turn map contacts back on.

lol... just set it the settings to HARD and leave them alone. I've been playing 100% realism and I gotta say its just not worth the headache. Zeroing in on a lone merchant with no contacts, easy. but it just gets to be too much damn work and then large task forces, and convoys really start messing with you as its rather hard to stay on ONE contact at that point and they tend to get going in all sorts of different directions so I've got teleporting ships..

Not worth 100% realism keep contacts on.

Playing with map contacts OFF adds a huge amount on uncertainty and fog of war, doesn't it? Everything you do depends on you, not some computer AI guy. Probably why a single convoy encounter takes hours, you cannot zip along at 32x in the dark--you have to stand watch and whatever those shapes are out there, it's up to you to determine.

Map contacts OFF is a whole level of game higher.

lol, i'm not sure that was the type of answer he was looking for Neal.

But that being said.. ya, its a whole bunch of headache. Either play with contacts off and play in the dark running about the sub trying to figure out what that is which way its going and if its alone....

Which isn't too hard.. its when its not alone that the headache really sinks in for me. Thats just ALOT to keep track of and when I have to just shove my sonar man outta the way because he can't tell me whats going on.. it gets really tiresome to listen, chart, peek, listen, chart, peek.. etc.
