Beer. Green beer.

Sigh. I used to see the Grateful Dead on St. Patty's Day.

Strange that people should be drinking to commemorate the day when St. Patrick came to Ireland (?), usually Christians are kind of against drinking and stuff.

antikristuseke,

remember moderation when drinking, who will defend Estonia against the eastern hordes if you're suffering from a horrible hangover.

St. Patrick is a Catholic saint, so technically the religious origins of his holy day are part of the Roman Catholic tradition specifically, not a general "Christian" one, despite its adoption by party people everywhere as an excuse to drink green beer and wear Kiss Me I'm Irish buttons.

I'm sure there are Catholics who don't drink for various reasons, but as far as I know drinking alcoholic beverages is not the automatic "OMG a SIN!!" within Catholicism that it is in some of the more strict Protestant traditions. (Like the one I grew up in, for instance. I was taught that "good" Christians don't drink, period. It was always fun watching them try to explain away the bit in the Bible - which, of course, was to be taken as literal and undeniable truth - where Jesus turns water into wine.)

I am recon, my job is to be quiet and observe, something that can be done while hung over. Besides that I'm not on active duty, but a reservist.

frau kaleun,

yep, that's how it is here too among the more strict sects. Happy St. Patricks day anyway to all who celebrate it.

antikristuseke,

ok ok, just joking.

When I was going for my Intermediate EMT certification my fellow students and I used to fight for duty on St Patrick's day, evening shifts.

We used to call it "Amateur Night" and we could always count on a few field intubations and IVs.

Few are a ghoulish as EMT-I and EMT-P students.

Intubation is not too bad, I think. Never had to do it in the military. I did place IV's but mostly for practice.

A tracheostomy on the other hand, I wouldn't want to do it. Something about cutting into the neck that feels kinda risky, although it is a life saving measure.
