On the MARHST-L list there was mention of a proposed fire control competition between restored U.S. and U.K. capital ships, IIRC there's a restored U.S. fleet boat on the Pacific side (BOWFIN? PAMPANITO?) that recently restored its Torpedo Data Computer to full working order. If there are others in a similar state of operation, that might be a good opportunity for a competition between volunteer crews to track and "sink" a simulated target. Might even be simpler in execution than a surface warfare simulation, given that it relies on a limited number of discrete periscope "observations." Given the identical nature of the equipment, it would be more a test of the efficiency and skill of the volunteer crew than of the equipment itself. The winning boat could get a broom to lash to the periscope until the next competition.
