Default British gunners are blind?

I have noticed a "small" problem. The british gunners can't hit anything! I noticed this when I played Chinese U-47:s Warship mod (thats becouse I dont usually stay at surface when playing with a sub). I took some pictures.

As you can see I was engaging HMS Hood.

Not only Hood's gunners are blind. I engaged a task force few hours earlier (HMS Hood, HMS Nelson, HMS Rodney, HMS Illustrious and several cruisers and destroyers).

I sank every ship exept Rodney. And I took only a little damage when I tryed to sink the Rodney by ramming her. I didn't took almost any damage from enemy gunfire.

The Hood was sinking fast.

And, as you can quess, no damage caused by Hood. Some of you may have noticed some damage in my ship, but that damage came from destroyers defending a convoy. They were really angry when I sank their convoy

I just got the warship mod myself. The gunnery in SH3 has usually appeared inconsistent (at least to me anyhow, so the root of the problem may be in SH3 as opposed to the Warship Mod...any modding authorities care to elaborate?) Some missions they can land perfect shots from many thousands of meters away, I once ran into an ASW trawler who did just that (this was before I started WSM)... yet on other occasions they can't hit squat .
Even if they do fix the accuracy, it takes quite a bit to sink you on that mod (if at all). On the far east fleet mission I was hit so many times my entire ship (Bismarck Class BB) turned black yet the ship didn't sink, or show any sign of sinking.

I have found that the type and experience of the ship and crew you are engaging matters greatly. While small destroyers, trawlers, etc generally couldn't hit a barn if it as sitting on their bow, the more experienced crews later in the war on frigates and capital ships were able to do some nice shooting in fair weather. I had in fact seen both ends of the spectrum in a single engagement with a Fiji class landing some very nice hits while some Tribals right next to it seemed to have been blinded by the sun. On other missions, the Tribals had deadly accuracy within 4km and the lighter destroyers sucked.

I believe there is some randomness involved in selecting the experience level of the crews for the ships -- with larger, more valuable ships having a greater weight towards experience. I could always be wrong though, it's been a while since I looked at those files. Weather plays a very large role in targeting ability I've noticed.

The lack of sinking was probably because the armor was so thick on the BBs that it took very large guns to punch through. Since SH3 uses one armor level for the whole ship, everything gets that invulnerability.

What Gizmo says makes sense.

The BB armour is simply too thick for anything small to do damage.

Also crew experience is critical to accuracy - inexperienced crews can't hit much, including your own, until you promote and give medals to them. If you look at the mission editor, you'll see that a level of experience can be assigned.

As per the turrets on the pictures of Hood not aimed at you, were they knocked out of commission? What I like to do when engaging an enemy cruiser/battleship is to aim for the weapons with my turret, while my crew shoots for the waterline. Once the turret is knocked out, it stays in that position, not rotating back to center once 'she's going down'.

Well, i can still sink destroyers in 1944, on my IXB.
Provided that im manually firing, the bow angle is 0 and they're more than 3km away!
