Default Hint for D/L section use please ?

Sorry, don't know if its the right forum for this.

I was wondering if it's possible to have a list of files to download by members ( like they have in Filefront for example ) as opposed to the classification by topics. Is there a simple way to see what each member has uploaded ?
Thank you for your answer.

Well, we all have our different ideas and opinions. BtS was organized by contributing modders, and that was the one thing I didn't like about their site. The biggest problem I have with that is the question of what happens to older small mods that no-one remembers the author of? Myself, I like having them organized by what they do, rather than who made them.

That said, I didn't create the organization of the Subsim Downloads section, I just try to keep it organized. Neal might like the idea of having sections for individual modders, but any change in that direction would be entirely up to him.

[edit] 'Comments To Subsim Review' probably would have been the better forum for this, but then not as many people would have seen it.

If you are looking for a list of mods by member XXX than you can also go to their profile page and there is a tab that says downloads on it and that displays all of the work they have uploaded to Subsim. Obviously if they haven't uploaded anything to this site it won't be displayed here.

I understand, SailorSteve, thank you for your answer.

I know, It's already a huge site with so many different forums and links everywhere anyway...

But I originaly started the subject because it's really a pain now when you have to find a file, with BTS closed and FF than has erased so many files too, and most of the time when a link to a file is posted, the links are down..

So what I was meaning rather would be a sticky with members in alpha order ( like in the Captains roster for instance were anyone having files uploaded ANYWHERE would give a working link ( with somebody tracking the ones not working and members reporting the broken links) so we would be able to very quickly have a database oflinks for anyone having uploaded files anywhere.

I think it would'nt be a bad idea, as I'm not the only one bothered when lookink for files ( read Laufen zum ziel among many other ). Actually a lot of people are very upset with this issue with FF, BTS disappearance ). For example Rafael took the liberty of uploading Thomsen sound files very recently, and that was nice from him, because it was nowhere to be found. And it's the case with many many files. Also that would save a lot of useless writing, asking were is this file, where is that one etc..

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not asking Subsim to upload each and every file SH3 related, but a thread with a solid links database of where to find files, I mean LINKS in working order ( for those members having files uploaded at some site ).
I'm not mentionning all this for myself alone.

I don't know if it's feasible, if yes, may be a poll would tell us if I am the only one to think that way...

Thank you anyway for your attention. JMV

Etr3(SS) :

Yes, I've seen that, but it's only for those members that have files uploaded here. What we need I think is a LINK database. It can be a link to FF, or any other site as far as it's a WORKING link. That's what I was meaning.

Yeah I got that after reading your reply to Steve. I suppose if everyone involved in modding here just uploaded their mods here that would make things much simpler.

Yes of course that would be easier if we could all upload our files in ONE place, were we could be sure it's not deleted or else, the next day, but that's not possible.
But instead, a sticky is easy, ( or a part of the D/L section ) with a roster of all captains ( having files somewhere ) and a LINK working order. That's all.
