Yeah, I know it's just talk right now... but at least it's talk I can identify with... Finally, a guy with some common sense...

He got elected because he isn't a "good ol boy". I'm a white male, but I'm not a RICH white male so I don't get invited to those private meetings on yaghts where the country is split up amongst the rich elite establishment.

It's about damn time someone did something for the country. They spend millions in our tax dollars to blow up bridges in Asscrackistan and then we spend milions to build it back and here in America people die when bridges collapse.

I just hope he understands cause and affect of everything he is planning. I see good and bad in his plans.

He needs line item veto authority, something many presidents have tried to get and failed. There's really no other way to eliminate the pork without slowing things down to a crawl.

I don't agree with his idea of investing in the current infrastructure. Even though it is needed, it needs to be different. Maybe it's time to replace the railroads with something better, something more effective.

When the investment was made in the federal highway system there were added benefits that came with it. It created more opportunities, businesses, and opened up unpopulated areas to development. Repairing the existing infrastructure won't have the same effects. It needs to be done but I think it should be handled at the state level, paid for with a fuel tax.

Spending is good but too much deficit spending could have a negative affect if it devalues the dollar much further. It would make me more comfortable if he had a plan to pay for all of the new programs he's proposed.

I guess time will tell. We all know, and he keeps reminding us, it will get worse before it gets better. Time for this generation to roll up its sleeves and get to work, just like our ancestors who built this country.

I'd be happy if we just recreated the railroad network we had in the 1940's with today's technology. Most of the rights of way still exist and we could use an alternative to the airlines.

The country has been anti mass transit thanks to the "big 3" automakers wanting everyone and their cousin in a car. Yes the same big three who are begging to be "rescued".

Wasn't it clear enough for you? Here I'll put it this way. No bullet trains for you. Understand?

Sounds like you're happy about that. What's your solution?

I gotta agree, it comes across as though you're happy there will be no trains, subchaser?

as for OBH, well he's gonna need his wits about him as soon as he takes office, I suspect a few hotspots around the globe.

In the US, i saw he plans on doing work on the interstate highways to generate jobs. Anyone notice he didnt say the word 'spend' once? :hmm: I have visions of people volunteering to jump into chain gangs like the 30s!

That and more buses! When I studied in the UK in the late '80s it seemed you could literally go anywhere without a car. It might take you a little while, but if it existed a bus or train could get you there.

Here in NJ, our most crowded state, unless you want to go into the big cities you are out of luck if you don't have a car. It's crazy.

I am train neutral. I'm just pointing out why the country is anti mass transit. I'm a car loving American. I like my car and I don't care, I'm driving everywhere. I'm just saying I don't think trains are an issue.

I don't care. I could do without a car. It would probably be better for my health if I walked around town, anyway.
