sudden crash

since 2 days, my game has a CTD every 30 minutes or so, needless to say it is driving me

it usually but not always happens if i click one of the command buttons like surface attack or surface cruise. the game is original and in 1.4 version.
is there anything i can do except un- and re-install the game? if not, do i have to start my whole career from the scratch?
any help is much appreciated.

the surface cruise and surface attack buttons have been known to cause CTDs in past instances (known issue).

I would refrain from their use altogether.

abandon this practice and see if the CTDs stop

if not we will have to look for another solution
