Default Wholesales destruction without a single eel fired

All these damage to and from my patrol grid. This is the most number of ships I sunk in 1 patrol. Yet I still can't go over 100k.

It also goes to tell how poorly this game model the reaction by coastal defense to uboat attacks. IRL, a result like this should have brought 4-5 destroyers into a grid search for my ass and 24-hour air patrol on top.

A demom with the deck gun! Unless there a escorts in range on when a ship is sunk, there will be hardly any response. Being that it's 1939, and there is a lot of pressure on what few escorts are in the game at the time, it was pretty accurate. Try doing that in 1944 and the response will be somewhat different!

Hey common, leave something floating for us too, will ya!

About getting over 100k, why not extend your patrol and use them torpedoes.

Well done!

Not as impressive as yours, but still not bad:

there's a few more ships outside the view, total of 20 ships (59,000t). A lot of them sunk with the guns.
And you're right, there's no reaction form Royal Navy. Only once after I sank a ship, the patrol craft appeared searching for me. And it probably stumbled upon the sceene by accident.

Deck gun and flak got 54k from 23 ships. 14 torps get another 8 ships bringing the total to 98k. (I had since became a much better torpedo man). But the weather being so nice, I can still continue patrol as long as the cook have stuff in the fridge.

Hrmmm, on one hand it's `39, a/s defences were poor.
On the other hand when I did RL_E I remember several BdU references to orders early war that wanted torpedo hits probably at night to give the illusion of mine hits. Still blasting things with a deck gun is fun. May I suggest an edit to limit the ammount of shells you carry, or you can use the default storm conditions which tend to severly limit the ability to man the guns.

With 100% realism, I had the 210 Deck gun shells, standard for a VIIB. And yes, not every patrol can be so successful. Weather is a BIG factor. Most patrol I get about 3-6 ships with deck gun. But during this patrol, the weather was so nice for so long. Also, most coastal vessels, up to tug boat, and coastal tanker, are dealt with using flak, saving the deckgun shells for bigger game.

P.S. I rarely use the deck gun when wind speed is above 5 knots.

Also in early war, it's my practice to surface 800 meter from the side of a merchant. At this distance, few shots if ever are wasted. Later in the war, with merchants armed, most deckgun attack take place at ranges over 3000 meters, so instead of sinking a ship with 5-10 shots, now it took 20-30 shots. Later, the IXB has only 110 deck gun shells. good for at most five kills.

Early war deck gun attack procedure:
1. Get ahead of the merchant on the surface
2. Approach the course of the merchant at periscope depth
3. stop the boat 1000 meters from a merchants projected course
4. One more check on periscope to make sure she is not armed, and no other threat around.
5. when she's at your 10 oclock, surface slowly, stop immediately upon surfacing.
6. Manually aim the deckgun at water line.
7. 5-10 good shots and water line (splash hit). go back to periscope depth and wait for her to sink.

Hope it works for you guys as well.

"If any of my soldiers fire a shot at a target over 800 meter away, I will court martial him for cowardice." -Patton, In response to a comment that the soviet "Iosef Stalin" tank can hit a target over 3000 meters.
