Lets see, democrats let oil prices rise (it happened completely during their watch in congress by the way, and they passed laws to help it along no less in many ways), then when people are feeling the pinch, they bail us out. Hmm... Lets analyze this. All of a sudden, we are more reliant on big government. Hmm... Interesting. The path to communism / socialism gets shorter every day!

No, what he is asking is that the taxpayers, through taxes, fund this emergency assistance, with the hopes that the money will be eventually replaced over five years.

The oil companies are not just going to fork over the entire amount 21 Jan 09. The government will waive its magic credit card and hit the mythical ATM machine and the cash will flow.

Did it ever occur to Obama that the slicky lawyers of the oil companies will just move the money so that it does not register as profit but as something else such as reinvesting it in their company (which is what we want). But by then the government will have already sent out the bribe checks and will need to come up with the cash from non-oil companies.

Hmmm I wonder where the government can get that money from??????

In reality, neither Democrats nor Republicans are going to solve our problems. We need different parties. I would encourage people to at least look up the Libertarian party. I was a republican until I really understood the party, so I converted. Their views may not appeal to you but I urge you to consider them. Note the consistency of Libertarian policy with the ideals this country was based upon.
Liberty is a popular message that we can all embrace if we forget temporary gains from vested special interests in the two dominating parties in favor of a general upswing in prosperity.
The empirical proof is abundant, I will be more than happy to point it out. Again.

Even if you don't subscribe to Libertarian ideals for God's sake we have to do something now! That does not mean we need to ask the Federal or even the state government to do something now. They have a terrible history of making things worse and more expensive at the same time.

It also does not mean forcing other people to do things by seeking prohibition of their individual rights. Be they Gay or Communist or Satanist or whatever.

Actually, that really only leaves us with constitutionalists and libertarians. At least that would be a better two (but actually one) party system. Think about it, they are forced by their own platform to not mess with people or policy other than to not pursue policy.

Sure, the states can still ruin themselves, but at least we don't have retarded policies that affect all states, thus giving people the ability to choose which state most suits them.

I have a nice opportunity here to argue about how many "liberal" Californians and New Englanders have chosen "conservative" Texas as the best state for them but I won't because If Texans say something it tends to lose credibility. After all, they're just "ignorant" southerners.

It's nice to be blunt once in a while; it lets off a little steam

If a meeting was adjourned. It is adjourned. The Democrats did not "walk out" they adjourned the meeting. If the Republicans want to sit in the dark and kevetch, that is their right.

The First Amendment gives the right for the Republicans to peaceably assemble and talk and debate amongst themselves.

A historical event? Doubtful. Republicans being in the dark is neither an event nor historical.

That was nine minutes of my life lost forever.

I agree. And if I thought that the electoral college would ever put more than one vote (1972) to the Libertarian Party, I would seriously consider it.

As long as the Electorial College, for practical purposes, only recognizes two parties, we are stuck with two parties.......unless we get rid of the Electoral College

It would be nice if either of the two parties would start moving toward a Libertarian platform... but I am dreamin again.

Correct. It was a political stunt by republicans who know their numbers in Congress will only thin this election season.. (Lost seats in two DEEP red areas)
