It is exactly what you would expect it to be

Its small, rusty, claustrophobic, obsolete and held together with sticky tape.

All the qualities that made the type II so popular

Well they're slow on the surface, in real life they were either ovens or freezers depending on where you were operating. It takes forever to charge the batteries and while charging, you run on one prop and if your in a hurry, too bad. They had constant problems with the sewage backing up into the ship (they're not called pig boats for nothing) and they are held together with rivets so your crush depth is not so good.

On the good side of things, they dive very fast and they're pretty quick submerged, just not for very long plus I think they look really cool.

In real life, any skipper with any sense would have begged to not get an S Boat but in SH4, they can be kinda fun for a while.

BTW: They only used the MK10 torpedo. It packed less punch than the MK14 but was more reliable.

As much as the Sugar Boats we're obsolete, outdated, weak, and uncomfortable, some of them we're successful (Look at the S-44 for example)

There old and slow but a hell of a lot of Fun to play with, sit around the Makassar Strait (spelling?) and you will sink tons of ships in one.

Rose Started a really bitchin thread about the S-44. Link@ http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...highlight=s-44
I was so stoked with the pictures I snivelled for bearded Chiefs in dungurees and didn't patrol in nothing else for quite awhile of playing this sim. CL

To really enjoy them you should play without using the PK too

S-18 and S-42.

In the stock game there is not much difference, other than the placement of the AA gun. In RFB, things like the date radar becomes available are very distinct for both boats. S-18s only got SJ radar, while S-42s got both, but not until the summer of '43.
