mobo help
The other half's PC seems not to remember the date and time anymore. When you boot it up you get a cmos checksum error. And upon inspection of the time and date in either the windows control panel or the bios settings they revert to jan 1994 or some such time.
My feeling is that this is a symptom of a mobo battery on the way out. Everything else seems to work correctly and I have had the bits of hardware in her pc for about 6 years now. I've had a peep online and others seem to recommend a battery issue also. What do you guys think, is my diagnosis correct? Hopefully the battery is not soldered in like some I have encountered  so replacement should be a simple matter of getting another battery from somewhere like maplin electronics in town.

Sounds like a battery error to me. Should be a standard CR2032 3v battery. I shouldn't bother with Maplins though as any electronics store will sell them as they are more commonly used inside TV remotes.
 Opps, first off. Have you tried resetting the CMOS using the jumper?

A little more info:
turning off and disconnecting the power for 5 minutes just now and everything was ok, but after re-setting the time & date yesterday, then turning the pc off last night and booting up earlier today, the settings for the T&D are all messed up. Cheers fellas, So one new battery comming soon  EDIT: not tried cmos jumper as yet - gotta find the mobo manual first hehe.

You don't really need it if you have good eyes. Just look at the mobo for a 3 pin and some tiny letters that say CMOS. There should already be a jumper in place across 2 of the pins, just move the jumper to the other side. No need to power up as the CMOS will reset when powered down. Replace jumper to original position.
