Default Best Graphics card?

Hi all

I was just wondering what Graphics Cards everyone runs this and SH4 on?

I have a Radeon X1300/1550 series thing and I think it is about to die. So what should i be spending my cash on if i replace it? And please, I aint spending £600+ on this so no industrial strenght ones please. I will spend up to £300ish.

Many thanks for any info in advance.

iesol,
I am in the same boat you are. As near as I can tell, the limiting factors are wattage and heat production. SHIV takes a lot more power than SHIII.
I have had good luck with the ATI cards; the issues with the Nivea cards and the games appears to be satisfied.
So it appears the best card that your wattage and cooling can handle is the answer. If you have an older machine your choices are limited to cards well within your budget. Anything that can run SHIV will SHIII at best settings.

Hi irish

When you say fan do you mean the main fan or the one on the graphics card?

As for wattage eeerrrrrrrrrr? I will look at that one when I find out what mine is

Doesn't memory on the card make a difference though. Mine is 256 but surely if I go up to 512mb that should help?

Thanks for the help.

Nvidia 7300 GT, sh4 medium/high detail, without overclock 20 fps, overclocked like now 40
Original card operated at 350 gpu, 266 memory, now has 520 gpu, 490 memory. Ive put on it a fan, temperature never gets above 70 and its summer here with 40 c and i see no artifacts, for months have worked fine. I would not be able to play sh4 without overclock.

First, someone please translate £300ish.

I use a VisionTek 1300 256/ddr2 AGP card (ati). On a 939 system. Seems ok except when zoomed on concentrated fires then frame rate kills. So, I avoid that in my scope now. You can drop you particle density and not tax the card with AA. But in the end unless you have an 'industrial strength' wallet - deal with the eye candy or not.

And yes I do understand that other things effect this but I have heard good things about the NVIDIA GeForce 8600GS but dont want to waste money if these stories have been wrong.

Pent 4 3Ghz with 1gb Ram.

Holy Crapp I spent about $40 on a used card, if you have that kind of silly money for a video card you should be on newegg.com not here.

Well if I'm gonna replace it then i might as well buy one worth having and that wont be obslete inside of 3 months.

I think the problem is overheating as it gets very jerky when theres a lot going on on screen and then every now and then the damn thing just reboots itself for no reason!

Last year I went for the 8800 GTS (320 mb). It runs SH4 perfectly. The card is a budget version of the fullblown 8800. Might be worth a look? I'm very happy with it.

I bought mine from the pricefighter Club3d.
