Default Bummin.....

Well i had to try.Being stationed in the Army for 2 years on Ft Davis on the Panama Canal in the 1097th River Raider boat platoon, and have been up and down the Canal system many times,I decided to get to at least Gatun lake in my sub.I had read someplace in the GWX manual that there was a permanent sub curtain at the mouth of the Chagres River, and was hopeing this to be maybe at Gatun Locks so at least i could get to Gatun lake and cruise to where our docks at Ft Davis and Ft Sherman would once be located.Well all was going well, snuck into Colon harbor in the middle of the day with only 3 Meters under me,dodgeing ship wrecks and stationed tug boats all the way.I must say its not perfect match to Colon Harbor but its close enough to bring back memories of the countless trips i had made in and out of the break wall there. All was going good,i was haveing the best time, until ,and there it was ,i was in eye sight of the canal opening,a stone throw away from Gatun Lake, the curtain of death, with 2 gun emplacements on each side.I almost cried. Not sure why this was done like this.Gatun lake could have been a pretty nice hunting ground,Ive seen ships stacked up in there like cord wood before.Oh well,it was still fun,i love the sneaking into harbors and stuff, gets my blood pumping more than sinking the big boys

Hey Hanomag.

I was in Davis from late 89 to mid 91.I also was in Saudi during that time for a few months as well.Panama wsa a very swesome place, surely isnt like it is state side in the Army.I went to Panama from Ft Hood ,1st Cav Div.,totally different Army for sure. After doing my little float in SH3 last night i googled up some Ft Davis pics,i cant believe the place now after the U.S. pulled out.Its a total run down ghost town, was pretty sad seeing it like that after all the fun we had there. Was really suprised the Panamanians didnt move into them shut down bases.Who knows, maybe the U.S made the facilitys unusable after they left.Only pics i couldnt find was of the docks where we had our boats.Oh well, ill stop bumbling on now.
