You can see a disturbance in the soil where the explosion seemed to originate. Can't see good, but it looks like something sticking out of the ground.

That looks suspiciously like a remote detonation via binoculars, where the viewing angle made the bad guys think the vehicles were right on the charge. Unfortunately, a lot of the time other troops aren't quite so lucky.

It does look like there is something on the surface, but to heave stuff up like that, I suspect a lot of the charge would have to be buried.

Certainly very lucky, but the trouble is, they have to do that kind of mission pretty much every day.

To my untrained eye it looks like the charge was buried too deep.
