Christmas Cancelled

Kptlt. Johan Sebastian Balz writes:

23 December 1940

Thanks to BDU you will be deprived the pleasure of my wonderful company this Christmas as I am leaving on patrol now.

Of course, I will take advantage of this patrol to increase my great tonnage. I will also be working on my fabulous opera Romeo & Juliet.

Here is Act I:

The curtain raises to the strains of March of the Easter Bunnies.
Juliet stands on balcony watching a parade of drumming bunnies who are collecting bribes for the local mafia. Beyond the parade, in the harbour, Romeo is getting into his U-Boat.

After bunnies exit, Juliet sings soulful aria: I Miss Your Periscope, Romeo.
Carrying a skull, Shakespeare enters from stage left and declaims a soliloloqui, To Be or Not To Be.
The act ends with Romeo closing the hatch and sings an aria inside the submarine (We Don't give the name of the aria as no one Can hear it. This is a new Balz technique).

Pitying everyone for being deprived of my company, I wish all a Happy Christmas.
You can all enjoy the holiday knowing that the great Balz is out there keeping the Vaterland safe.

Kptlt. Johan Sebastian Balz.
Grand hero of the Kriegsmarine

Don't forget to pack some powder, and always use a clean towel.

Holidays are a myth made by ppl who like to celebrate things that mean something to them.

My crew and I are without such things. A holiday or even birthday means nothing. It's just another day like any other.

WE are always on the lookout with a killer's instinct for the enemy what ever the weather, date or moral of the crew... we shall kill thy enemy

And if many enemy boats appear...we shall start with the biggest of them all and make our way down from there

Thus is the way.

Thus is our life !
