SH3 issues

Hi fellow mateys, so I have ahd SH3 for ages well since it came out and even had it loaded with GWX but I got Vista and then it kept freezing on me so I read up about all the other problems ppl where having and tried to follow some of those steps to resolve mine. Well, now I can update the game to 1.4b (it actually says 1.3) it loads up telle me it can update this gaem and does so, asks me to restart so I do. Ok upon restart I try to laod GWX mod and it says I need to update my game to 1.4b but I just did, I check it and the game seems to have not updated although I have just seen it laod the files and restart.

Whats happening as ive tried installing uninstalling the game, installed and removed Starforce, removed all files associated with SH3. installed from clean and still no luck so now im stuck with this stupid 1.4b loading but not really!

Any ideas as I would really appreciate it.

Welcome to Subsim matey

I think the update that is being refered to is an update for the Starforce drivers. I'll try to find a link for you.........

You may not know that even if you remove the SF drivers, they are automatically reinstalled when you run SH3 using the disk.

thans you. yer Ive read the vista sticky but not read anyone having this problem unless I missed it. its just really weird that the update actually runs and installs and then restarts but has no effect. ive even gone and downloaded the removal tool for starforce and still it does not work.

That might help you. When it says REMOVE anything relating to SH3 it means EVERYTHING. Now I don't use Vista but I assume that there is still a registry, you might need to clean all SH3 entries from there also.

I have also heard about using Administrator settings while trying to get SH3 loaded and running. You might find this in the properties options for the exe or shortcut.

FYI - Once you have patched the game to 1.4b (1.3) there is no further update, so unless it's automated, ignore it.

Sorry I'm not more help but Vista sucks at the moment. I hope someone can help you more. It's not right to have a subsimmer landlocked.

ok now i just tried the 1.4b update again and now it wont complete due to not being able to create the following file:

c:\programs\silenthunterlll\data\submarine\NSS_Ubo at21\NSS_l

any ideas?

Thanks any help is greatfully received. Ok now i removed everything once well many times before but ill try again. I'm not sure how to get into vista registry to see if theres anything in there tho. well lets see if anthing changes this time, ill be back in a few to update so with me luck as your right it sure is not fair or right to be landlocked its SUCKS!!!!

Is that copied & pasted? It's not complete.

How many times have you tried this? I know it's not a proper fix but many have said to keep trying and it'll eventually work.

it was copied from the message box and yes its incomplete as thats all it was showing me.

lol no not now I actually like Vista as its pretty fast compared to XP. just some things dont work as usual with microsoft poop

Ok, give it some time to see if anyone comes into this thread to help but also, post your woes in the sticky. It's more likely to attract Vista users that way.

Have you tried right clicking the 1.4b patch .exe file and then click at "run as administrator" to run it?
It seems as Vista is not giving the patch file write rights as it runs but cannot write the updated files to your Sh3 directory. Running the patch as admin should cure that problem

well I was having the same problems until I tried this, so far its loaded the 1.4b update and recognised it and its now loading the GWX mod too so fingers crossed this has solved it. who would think something as small as this would stop you from updating game files etc. Im the only admin on my pc as im the only user so you would assume it would auto run as admin but it doesnt so for future reference for vista users right click and run as admin.
