Default radar issues

I do not have much experience so far with radar in SHIV. It was never a problem in Sub Battle Simulator or SHI, which are two ancient subsims. However, SHIV seems to take a giant step backwards in terms of the state of the art. The "switches" that control the range have no markings, and do not move. The "On-Off switch" does not move, and the menu bar at the bottom of the screen is the most useless and user unfriendly abortion I have ever seen in any sim to date.
So far, I have been unable to hit the right combination of buttons or whatever to turn the thing on and keep it on. It flashes on for a second then quits, even after hitting the so-called continuous sweep button. I get radar reports from 100 feet down or more.

Is there such a thing as radar depth? and if so, can someone please tell me what it is?

It appears from various other posts that others are experiencing some problems but some people are not. If there is a secret to all of this, can someone please help me out? thanks!

As for Ubisoft, you win, you got my $50 and I did not get my $50 worth . There will NOT be a next time. Joe S

Joe I was about ready to post on the same subject. I really don't know what to do with the radar, it doesn't function for me either. Is it set-up to work after a certain date or must it be out-fitted , can't tell. Maybe there's someone who's a little more knowledgeable than us and can give us a clue. I got a message from my radar man saying ships have been spotted at bearing xxx, long range. When I move to the radar station nothing works.

Was wondering same thing here...haven't got either to work...noticed in crew list on the particular sub I am using it does not have anyone assigned to them...so maybe it is boat/time era specific ???

The 3D station is for SJ radar only. Why they left is accessible when your boat only has SD radar, I don't know. Now if you are in a boat that has radar, but the station doesn't do anything, then that probably means you have SD radar and it still incorrectly picks up surface contacts.

Truth is, the radar aspect of the game was clearly only half finished when the game was released, and 1.2 took only a tiny half-step towards completion (or possibly just disguised one problem with another).

There is virtually nothing that is correct about SD radar. I don't even see the point of putting it on your boat.

Do you suppose we could trade in our "game" for one that had a little less eye candy and a few more of the "gameplay " features fixed? sorry for the rant but this is really inexcuseable in view of the state of the art in previous subsims. Joe S

Ugh this is one of the worst aspects of the game from what I see.

This whole game is only half finished. I have it since 2 days, but I'm leaving it for SH3+GWX already. What an unfinished nightmare of a game.

I see the potential though, so I won't return it until lets say patch 1.4b:
the same tactic I used with SH3, which worked out quite allright.
