Default Battle of the Java Sea / Dutch Colonial Ports

Does anyone know if the Battle of the Java Sea will be included ? I know I was always whining in the past that including major sea battles is useless, and a waiste of resources, in a SubSim, but now that some of them did make it into the game it would be great if this famous Dutch Sea Battle was included as well.

I was also wondering if anyone has seen pictures of any Dutch Colonial ports. Till now I have only seen screenies of ports in Japan or US home ground. I am really hoping they did not use Generic Ports for major naval stations like Surabaya and Tandjong Priok

I have to admit, seeing the U.S.S. Houston "The galloping ghost of the Java coast", the De Ruyter, and the Java in their last action, along with the rest of the doomed ABDA ships would be interesting.

Yea, for the Japanese. :rotfl:

Seriously, I can understand you wanting it to be in - but the battle was just one more defeat in a string of defeats for the allies as Japan established their "Great East-Asian Co-prosperity Sphere" tm. It was hardly a turning point for anything.

You can always add one w/ some generic ship types anyway.

Default Idea

I would be very much in favor of seeing the major sea battles being included in a campaign, or even as single missions. I think it would add a lot to be out on patrol and receive/open orders like: proceed to grid coordinates xxxx for picket duty - a major enemy surface force is expected in this area on or about such and such a day. Elements of the seventh fleet are moving to engage - your mission is to locate the enemy surface units and report their strength, position, speed, course, etc. to higher HQ.

Eventually, you would (hopefully) be allowed to engage the ships yourself, once they had been fixed and engaged by friendly surface and air units.

Or, you could receive intel about a juicy target a la Archerfish - a new Japanese Carrier is expected to be performing sea trials in such and such an area on such and such a day - go get her.

Wasn't it Nautilus who put a fish into the side of Kaga when she was burning at Midway? Now that would be good. But yes, as interesting and heroic as the Java Sea Battle was, it was pretty one-sided and changed nothing. Just one more battle in a string of easy victories for the Japanese early on. The allies were outnumbered, outgunned, and ill-prepared for war in 1941. The Japanese were all-business at that point, and rolled over everything in their way for a while... As Yammamoto predicted. Then it all changed.
