So, I'm knocking about my control room - can't live forever on that damn chart table - and I notice a tall level gauge near the controls for the bow and stern planes that seems to indicate the fore/aft angle of the sub. Got me to realizing that I don't know a lot about the actual controls and systems aboard the U-Boat.
Can anyone point me to a good web reference that talks about how U-Boats actually operate - how a real TDC works, etc. Thanks, and good hunting to you. |

A couple of direct link...
For US subs, but the picture's the same... The current doctrine: COMMANDER SUBMARINE FORCE, PACIFIC FLEET, FEBRUARY, 1944 http://www.history.navy.mil/library/...b_doctrine.htm A mariners manual: http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/ Doesn't get much more authentic than that ![]() |

If you guys ever make it to the beautiful city of San Francisco, you should definitely visit the Pampanito and the Liberty Ship Jeremiah Obrien.
