Default Sept 1939

I'm on my first patrol and have sunk a merchant with a British flag in the Welsh port of Merthyr. It has been recorded as a 'neutral' kill. Is that right? Am I not authorised to sink British merchants at this time?

Cheers

KC

Hi mate! Have you recieved any enigma's telling you to engage british ships? It usually comes a radio message telling you the progress in the beginning of the war, then all british ports turn red, and its off to go huntin'!

Did you somehow get out there and sink him before Sep. 3rd at 1330 hours?

I thought I had received the radio report OK'ing British ships but not entirely sure. However, the British ports are all labelled in red.

I'm not sure what date it is but it must be well after 3 Sept, I've been at sea for days (a week or more) and I think the first patrol starts on 1 Sept (?). Is there any way to tell what current game date is?

Place your cursor over the clock in the bottom left of your SHIII screen, then the date pops up!

Yep - it's 18 Sept and the ship I sank was flying the british merchant navy red ensign.

As far as when you can attack British and when the British turn "red".

They turn RED on Sep 3rd at 0000Z but however you do not get the message telling you to attack them until 1331Z on the 3rd.

That being said I was once in the Channel and they began attacking me before I got the message! Had to go run and hide until 1330!

As far as your kill being called neutral on the 18th I'll have to pass it on just as Seth did, never heard of that!

Sonar: "Herr Kaleun, we have 5 destroyers movin' in for the attack! We have to engage them!!!"

Kaleun: "Hmmm....Not now. lets wait until after lunch.."

Can't say I've seen brits as Neutrals after 3rd Sept. A number of times I've tried to do the Channel dash prior to the declaration and I usually get about 1/4 of the way through when the balloon goes up. When it does the brit destroyers come looking for me and they are in now way neutral!

Only thing I can think of is that the dates in your config have gotten screwed up somehow. What happens if you start another career in Sept 39 and go straigh towards the nearest English port?

I've been guilty in the past of putting up some dumb posts because I did not read the screen carefully enough. So I reloaded a save and went back and checked the flag again - definitely a red ensign. Sank the ship and checked the closing screen carefully. It says "Allied Tonnage - nil. Neutral tonnage - 3,742" (or whatever the small cargo was). This was in the Welsh port of Merthyr on 18 Sept.

I think I have my own answer. You have to actually open and read the radio message of 3 Sept. I scrolled back through the radio messages, found the relevant message, read it and saved out. The tonnage nows shows as Allied. It appears I didn't read it when it came in. Sorry guys.
