Default RAMJB's Tutorial Series (Beta version)

Hey there!.

With the release of the game just around the corner, I think it's a good time to put the tutorials I'm making of the game all in the same basket for ease of access. They are all for the latest Beta version, and (hopefully) will be too for the full release.

(EDIT: they indeed are all fully appliable to full release)

All this tutorials are for the hardest mode, except for map contacts, which I leave on. I don't think no map contacts is realistic at all, it's hardcore, but not realistic. And no, I'm not planning on making any content with map contacts off. And no, I can't do much about my thick accent either

Of course if you have any suggestion/idea for other tutorials or tips videos, let me know

So, I did a TDC tutorial for the C/37 model back in early beta. I've seen quite a lot of posts saying that I'm hard to understand so.... refurbished, more focused, more complete, for full release...

And with LOAAAAAAADS of text to back what I'm saying. You can say my english isn't easly to understand, but you won't be able to say I don't work hard so it's not a problem

Oh, and with practical attacks using the TDC too so you can see how it works in action including:
-Single shot attack with periscope tracking enabled

-Preaimed-to-bearing attack with periscope tracking disabled

-Salvo attack (with the S3 TDC, but the methodology is the same with the C/37 mode

included it in the OP list instead of the original C/37 TDC tutorial.

Fantastic tutorials Ram, thanks for these.

I have a question regarding the S3 TDC. I know it can store AOB Info regardless of ownsubs and target movement, the only info that needs to be updated is the bearing (also done automatically if the TDC is connected to the aiming device) and range.

My question is how to use this to fire at several different targets in a convoy?

So I work out the AOB of my first target along with range. Fire my torps.

Now for my second target the AOB should also be transferred from my reading of the first target, I just need to take a new range reading. However to do this I then need to ID the target again to get the Stadimeter to work which means the AOB is forgotten?

Whats the quickest way to switch targets?

It's more complex than what it should be, to be honest, due to the way locking targets and entering TDC info from the periscope/UZO works.

but it still pretty simple and once you get the hang of it, you can do it really fast:

First you have to differentiate the periscope/UZO TDC boxes and lights, from the TDC itself, for a second. The TDC exists independent of those boxes and lights. The TDC works independent of those too. Those are inputs, the TDC is working even if those are not filled yet.

So bear with me for a second.

you lock on the first target. Get all the info in the TDC (be it manually, be it through the scope TDC boxes). Fire your torps. Ok, time to switch to the other target. This is what I usually do (sadly no good instance to showcase it just yet, but will try to make a point of noting it the next time I get to jump a convoy that hasn't been startled by another submarine yet, as the last one I got in my last episode ).

So, unlock the current target you've already fired at. At this point your TDC still exists, and is still linked to your periscope, even if you're not locked to anything.

Turn the scope to the new target. Your TDC will automatically have changed the bearing and AoB to that point. Lock the new target. Range it. Enter the speed (should be identical to that of the previous ship, they're sailing in a convoy).

Now change to the TDC screen, watch your AoB there, go back to scope, manually introduce the same AoB. You don't have to recalculate it, the TDC has already done it for you. You only have to take a look at the info, and introduce it in the box (to get the green light, and later, for the torpedo to get the proper gyro instructions and give you the light to fire).

That's it. You've got the firing solution. Fire at will. Once you do, repeat for the next target...works perfectly

hope it helps.
