Ecuadorean military and police officers gun down at least 300 people after large crowds gather to strike for higher pay.
Voting today in the British general election results in a healthy majority for the Conservative Party led by Andrew Bonar Law. The Labour and Liberal parties, though well back, make gains. (A policeman holds back the crowds in London during the General Election.)

Bonnie Jean (United States) While no one was aboard, the 11-gross register ton, 36-foot (11.0 m) motor passenger vessel sank in "Scow Bay" in Southeast Alaska. The wreck report does not specify whether she sank in Scow Bay (56°46′20″N 132°57′50″W) on the coast of Mitkof Island in the Alexander Archipelago near Petersburg, Territory of Alaska, or in Scow Bay (56°42′45″N 135°16′30″W) on Baranof Island in the Alexander Archipelago southeast of Goddard, Territory of Alaska.
